  1. A while back an #environment activist on here (alas, their toot disappeared in timeline) was trying to work out how many people in UK regularly #drive - it is hard to get accurate data!

There are about 34 million private #cars in UK of 42 million #vehicles including #vans, #lorries, #buses, #motorcyles and anything else that needs registration mark from #DVLA GB or #DVA NI

About 43 million people in GB (excluding NI) hold a full #DrivingLicence - but not reliable data for number of drivers as these records include people who have died or emigrated!

And some folk own more than one #vehicle, others have a licence but don't drive - I'd guess at figure for private car drivers being around 25-30 million, but levels of #motoring will vary wildly between regions

  2. An unfortunate incident - #Coroner does not clarify if deceased was using #cannabis as a treatment for is #epilepsy and whether or not this was legal ( it can be prescribed for this purpose, and indeed is one of the few times when #NHS will prescribe #MedicalCannabis ) - but 90mph (145 km/h) is way too fast for an unlit rural road anyway, whether stoned or sober.

Coroner does have a point that such conditions /should/ be notified to #DVLA - but in a car-dependent region there's a lot of incentive to the driver not to do this (also if he's getting legal #cannabis and its recorded somewhere it will makes him a target for DUI checks which is another disincentive for self-reporting)

  3. In order to notify the #DVLA of a medical condition, you have to download a PDF, physically print it, complete 7 pages of detailed information, then send it in the post.

Oh but you can only get the form online in the first place, unless you happen to live in Swansea.

Are they being intentionally perverse for some intractable legal reason, or are they still updating their systems since the 80s?

  4. The commercial UK company selling #medical #cannabis and organising legal prescriptions (its not impossible even in UK!) is legit and /partly/ correct - first two points are accurate but third has a grey area. Reality (confirmed by many comments on the FB sponsored post) is #DVLA are often notified by patients GP - patient often has to jump through extra hoops to keep their #driving #licence and #insurance premiums will be loaded.

#Police can still stop them at roadside controls - if swab comes up positive (which is very likely) they can still be nicked on /suspicion/ of drug driving - since 2015 in England/Wales and 2019 Scotland system operates as "guilty until proven innocent" - patient will have to argue their case in Court and have bail hanging over their head for *months*!

  5. UK #DVSA #MOT data really is top quality 🤣 .

    make: 'PEUGEOT',
    model: '307',
    fuelType: 'Steam',

For the same reg #DVLA say "fuelType": "PETROL" which is sadly more believable.

  6. Getting threatening emails that look totally genuine from .gov from UK saying I need to pay road tax or face fine and or prison. Is this fake ? (I have no in the but have a car in the database for in ).

  7. LB: Alas, this is a photoshop - this registration mark doesn't exist - nowadays #DVLA often remove even mildly lewd combinations from circulation (although there are a few cars with BJ69 plates, it would be difficult to suspend the entire allocation as its from Birmingham, a large area where removing an entire block from the pool of available registration marks would cause problems)

  8. And how much tax do you pay for your bicycle? 😂😂😂 #dvla #motorcycle

  9. Digital driving licences coming to UK in 2025, report

People will be able to use smartphone app for age verification as well as proving driving credentials

  10. So it turns out the #DVLA Drivers & Vehicles account discriminates against Irish passports.

Just spent the afternoon in a chat queue.

You can use a UK, or a non-UK passport which is registered with the Home Office (for visa purposes) to prove your identity. But because Irish passports aren’t registered with HO they are unable to verify my identity - despite issuing me with a Gov Gateway account, a HMRC account, and driving licences for decades.

  11. In other news: they lost the daughter's passport despite her providing a tracked return envelope. Since she's travelling within the next month she can't afford to wait and see if it turns up so she has to pay for a new one, something she can ill afford #DVLA #Incompetence

  12. How is it 2024 and the GOVUK “Replace a lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed driving licence” service hasn’t been updated to the GDS service standard? Simple process but really hard to complete on mobile. #DigitalGovernment #GOVUK #DigitalServices #DigitalServiceStamdard #GDS #DVLA #UKGov #DrivingLicence #GovernmentDigitalService

  13. “It is your responsibility to renew your vehicle tax, even if the rate of vehicle tax is £0.” — I’m sure this is not a waste of anybody’s time or money. Right? #BullshitBureaucracy #DVLA

  14. The #GDS Service Standard and design has brought trust and ease of use to many #GOVUK websites. The start page for renewing your driving licence starts well then quickly moves here. If it wasn't on a Gov.uk domain with a valid certificate, I'd have no trust in this and not use the service. #DigitalGovernment #GovernmentDigitalService #DVLA

  15. #DVLA database updated (from #DVSA #MOT record) yesterday afternoon - so about 24 hours lag..

  16. TIL: There is a lag between #DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) and #DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) databases - I had my car #MOT inspection done today (passed with 0 advisories), but my code to check the DVLA database still shows the old expiry date (the DVSA MOT website shows the correct info with todays test date).

Maybe the two databases only synchronise overnight?
