Резервное копирование MS SQL в «Бересте»: как мы используем VDI
Вокруг резервного копирования Microsoft SQL Server обычно обсуждают либо штатные BACKUP DATABASE ... TO DISK, либо интеграцию с большими корпоративными системами защиты данных. Между этими двумя мирами есть важный слой: VDI (Virtual Device Interface). Именно через него внешнее приложение может встроиться в процесс резервного копирования и восстановления так, чтобы SQL Server писал не в обычный .bak по своему усмотрению, а в управляемый приложением поток данных. В этой статье разберем небольшой, но вполне рабочий проект на C++, который реализует РК и ВД для MS SQL Server через VDI в ПО «Береста». Утилита поддерживает: • полный, дифференциальный и логический backup; • restore одной базы или всех найденных; • striped backup/restore в несколько потоков; • Windows-аутентификацию и SQL-аутентификацию; • работу с SQL Server 2008-2022. Почему VDI? Если задача ограничивается локальным резервным копированием на диск, VDI не нужен: достаточно стандартных T-SQL команд. Но как только появляется внешняя система резервного копирования, картина меняется. СРК обычно хочет сама управлять: • жизненным циклом задания; • маршрутом потока данных; • параллелизмом; • политиками хранения; • журналированием и обработкой ошибок. И здесь VDI становится мостом между SQL Server и внешним приложением. SQL Server продолжает выполнять привычные BACKUP и RESTORE, но вместо физического файла работает с виртуальными устройствами. А уже клиент VDI читает или записывает данные туда, куда считает нужным: в локальные файлы, сетевое хранилище, object storage, дедуп-слой или собственный медиасервер.

Je dois vous partager une info qui est vraiment folle ! 🤯
J'avais un adaptateur #Apple mini DisplayPort vers #DVI Dual-Link (un #accessoire à 99$ sorti en octobre 2008). Cet adaptateur a eu des soucis de #firmware qu'Apple a corrigé. On pouvait faire changer l'adaptateur pour en avoir un avec le nouveau firmware (https://support.apple.com/en-us/101448).
Cet adaptateur n'est plus vendu depuis ~10 ans.
Mais mercredi dernier je suis allé à l' #AppleStore Opéra pour demander si un échange était possible... 🤷🏻♂️

Pour connecter le #MacPro à un écran, en l'occurrence à mon Cinema Display HD 30" j'ai du trouver un adaptateur Mini DP → DVI Dual-Link et par miracle j'ai trouvé l'original d'Apple, NEUF pour seulement 20€ !!!
Et le meilleur c'est qu'il m'a permis de réaliser que les artefacts sur l'écran du Cinema Display ne viennent pas de lui mais de mon adaptateur précédent !

HDMI is a terrible port & HDMI 2.1 will not support open source!!! Please everyone switch to the superior (mini) DisplayPort or USB-C (TB3/USB4) ASAP
(Even DP 1.2 would be better than any HDMI 1.4)

@the Those screws let me know when tight physically if I have it connected or not, and I don't need to be able to feel my fingers fully either, I can listen for when they stop & thusly abrade my fingers a little. This makes the computer system more #Accessible to me without the BS of "hiring help" be it in person or considering a remote diagnostician to tell me if my USB tip is worn out or if I've not pushed it in enough, as I can't even tell when I've got full sensation on said garbage. #DisabilityAccessibility #DVI #Enshittification

I got a computer monitor with VGA, DVI-D and DisplayPort interfaces and speakers for free. My #laptop has just an #hdmi interface. Fortunately, my cable for conversion between #hdmi and #dvi works well for displaying purposes. But there is no sound transmitted from the laptop to the monitor. Would a different cable change that or does it also depend on the monitor / laptop interface ?
If I connect my laptop to, say, the TV I can select #hdmi for output of the sound. This option is not available if the monitor is connected. -
Funny how #HDMI was supposed to be the USB C of #DVI, but the licensing is so absurd that Intel silently dropped support for high resolution over HDMI last March. It couldn't even kill DVI. I'm just glad #DisplayPort is finally killing off HDMI, though I think HDMI should have been stillborn.

Heute Morgen hatte ich kurz so einen verwirrten Retro-/Nostalgie Moment wie sie hier und da stattfinden so lange der 1. #Kaffee im System noch fehlt.
Ich blicke als nach links in Richtung meines Werkstatttisch und die Rückseite eines PC schaut mir direkt in die Augen. Ich lasse meinen Blick, nicht ganz bei der Sache, schweifen und bemerke wie ich mir selbst die Frage stelle

Here be me dongles.
(I went digging in my dongle box for a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter, which I found, and noted how many Apple-made dongles I have accumulated over the years. And, so, I share.)
(The Apple-made dongles represent but a small fraction of the overall dongle population in said box o' dongles, mind.)

@mos_8502 @RenewedRebecca I can't find my old HDMI pmod schematic, but this design from 1bitsquared is nicer and does a good job of showing the basic interface.
I forgot that you do need a pixel clock in addition to HSYNC, VSYNC, and parallel RGB signals, but that shouldn't be too hard to obtain from whatever is generating the video timing, I suspect (eg, the PIO core on the Pico, an FPGA, etc).

@juankprada I struggled with #monitor setups again as well, recently (my problem this time was that my laptop has a much higher resolution then the external #display) . After a day of fiddling with xorg.conf unsuccessfully I switched from #HDMI to #DVI and it worked without out of the box. And this was not the first time this was the solution, looks like HDMI sucks +__+
