  1. I see a lot of paraphernalia around #Seattle for the #Duwamish tribe, and paying them rent for this stolen land. I think a lot of well-intentioned people do that. /1

  2. My father-in-law visited us and I took him on a #bicycle tour through #Renton, along the #Duwamish River to #WestSeattle. We ended up using 4 modes of transportation: #cycling, #waterTaxi, #bus, and #train (and a bit of walking). The bicycle is just a great way to explore the city.

  3. Boeing Intentionally Polluted a River for Decades. Now It Doesn't Want to Pay to Clean It Up. Sign now to tell Boeing's CEO, Dave Calhoun, to make his billion-dollar company pay to clean up the Duwamish River! #environment #Duwamish #river #Boeing #pollution #Care2 thepetitionsite.com/883/304/55

  4. "...the company described the #Duwamish River as 'a natural collector for Boeing’s fluid wastes' in a 1950 magazine article Boeing produced for its employees. #Boeing said at the time that it had a handle on the situation — asserting, for example, that some of its most volatile waste would be neutralized by chemicals released by other polluters"

  5. I just finished reading "The River That Made Seattle: A Human & Natural History of the Duwamish" by BJ Cummings, founder of the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition.

It's a fantastic retelling of the history of the Duwamish people, Duwamish River, incoming industry & ongoing pollution, and the fight for environmental justice to protect Duwamish Valley residents & clean up the river from the past to 2020 when it was published.

  7. “We are an environmental justice community, like a lot of communities in the U.S., but we have unique needs. We can’t talk to the community about improving parks and how we’re thinking about our resilience unless we also talk about displacement.”

The #Duwamish Valley is one of the most climate-vulnerable parts of Seattle, already experiencing some impacts of #climatechange much sooner than anticipated.

  8. “Dzidzilalich” has been proposed as an honorary name for the new Elliott Way in downtown #Seattle, and for Alaskan Way from Elliott Way to S Dearborn Street. I'm glad to see the name return to our waterfront, but couldn't we have done better than "Elliott Way" for the new road? writesofway.org/dzidzilalich-r #Lushootseed #Duwamish #Suquamish #Muckleshoot #StreetName #StreetNames #NativeNames #NativeAmerican
