I'm working on my hormone replacement therapy regiment and need some advice.

I am MTF non-binary/transgender.

I've started estradiol transdermal but am unsure, for various reasons, about wanting to start any androgen antagonists (like spironolactone).

I am interested in reducing facial and body hair and receding hairline for which 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors are used, namely *Finasteride and *Dutasteride.

What’s y'all's experience, if any, with these drugs?

My main concern is that there's a chance of increased anxiety and depression.

There is this talk about #depression resulting from the use of 5α-reductase inhibitors (aka #Finasteride and #Dutasteride), which is of course a serious concern, but the studies that DIYHRT.market links are both about the use by #cis men not about the use by #trans women, which makes me question to what extend the results are applicable to us:

“ The findings support a growing impression that finasteride is associated with adverse psychiatric effects that can persist in association with sexual dysfunction after discontinuing finasteride treatment. ” — https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33814544/

I mean: If the reason for depression is a reduction in sexual function, than I wonder whether this is just a case of #cissies wanting to top in penetrative sex or are unhappy about a low sex-drive, the former of which is at least for me not really all that much of a concern, whereas the later is a feature… And I figure there might be quite a few other #transfem s sharing those sentiments…
