„Dungeons and Dragons” (D&D) to gra, w której przejmuje się role wymagające fantazji i użycia wyobraźni. Historycznym miejscem akcji są wieki średnie, ale z dodatkiem złowrogiej fantazji. Gra Dungeons and Dragons (DD) składa się z objaśnień, papieru graficznego oraz kilku kostek. Rzucając kostką gracze ustalają osobowość swojego bohatera, jego wiek, choroby, zakażenie pasożytami, specjalne uzdolnienia rasę i klasę. Następnie każdy gracz rzuca kostką, by określić, jakie bohater ma „punkty uderzenia", to jest, jakie rany można mu zadać bez uśmiercania. Gracze przyjmują również pewną ilość złota, by kupować broń. Uczestnicy wybierają „postawę" bohatera z trzech możliwości: Prawo, Chaos albo Neutralny. Każdy ma dobre lub złe cechy — to znaczy: prawy-dobry, prawy-zły, chaotyczny-dobry, czy też chaotyczny-zły.

Mistrz Jaskini jest najważniejszą osobą w tej grze. Jest on zwykle doświadczonym graczem wykładającym planszę do gry. Jest jedyną osobą widzącą mapę labiryntów i miejsc, gdzie ustawia potwory według instrukcji, nie tylko kieruje graczami, ale podejmuje wszystkie ostateczne decyzje. Grający wchodzą do jaskini i walczą z potworami, szukając skarbów i usiłując przetrwać. Żadnego ostatecznego efektu się nie osiąga, a gra trwa zwykle od 4 do 12 godzili. Przygody gracza kończą się wtedy, gdy jej bohater zostaje zabity.

W wielu grach DD grający mogą wyobrażać sobie, że popełniają morderstwo, podpalają, torturują, gwałcą lub kradną na drogach4. Oto przykład z przewodnika gry DD:

[„]Harpy: Harpowie atakują, torturują i zjadają ich wybraną zdobycz. Czego nie chcą zjeść, zanieczyszczają swoimi odchodami.
Człowiek Jaszczurka: Ludzie jaszczurki są wszystko żrącymi, ale wolą ludzkie dało niż inny pokarm. Stąd też znani są z robienia zasadzek na ludzi, gromadzą ciała oraz żyjących więźniów jako niewolników, a także zabierają całą zdobycz do swoich nor na straszną ucztę[”].

Poniższy tekst pochodzi z planszy i pokazuje, jak obrazową może się stać fantazja gwałtu w DD:

[„]Rzut kostką: 37-38; miejsce uderzenia: krocze/piersi; wyniki: genitalia/ wydarte piersi; szok. Rzut kostką: 95; miejsce uderzenia: wydarcie wnętrzności; wyniki: 20% szans na poplątanie stóp, umiera w ciągu 1-10 minut. Rzut kostką: 100; miejsce uderzenia: głowa; rezultat: rozbita głowa i mózg rozrzucony na dużym obszarze[”].

Moc fantazji może silnie przyciągać wielu nie czujących się zbyt pewnie w realnym świecie.

Najmocniejszym narzędziem w DD są przeważnie magia i czary, więc gracze dążą do pozyskania ich i wykorzystania. W miarę uczenia się zaklęć, naprawdę uczą się prawdziwych zasad czarnoksięstwa. W przewodniku do „Dungeon Master” czytamy: „Są instrukcje dotyczące wypowiadania zaklęć, użycia znanych duchów, rozmów ze zmarłymi, wykorzystania symboli okultystycznych dla ochrony rzucającego czary oraz wyjaśnienia specjalnych zaklęć używanych przez szamanów i czarnoksiężników”. Magia i czary w takiej czy innej formie znajdują się w wielu instrukcjach do różnych gier.

Wiele spośród tych zaklęć i symboli oraz różnych sposobów ochrony to prawdziwe metody okultystyczne, np. często, zanim gracz wypowie zaklęcie, zarysowuje ochronny krąg dookoła swojego ciała — zupełnie tak samo, jak czynią to prawdziwe czarownice. DD uczy podstawowych pojęć związanych z okultyzmem.

DD przedstawia światopogląd niezgodny z chrześcijaństwem. Wszystko w tej grze jest potraktowane jako fantazja, nawet rzucanie klątwy. Pismo święte poucza nas jednak, że czary i magia mogą być prawdą, a nie tylko formą zabawy. Ten, kto naśladuje Boga, nie może w nich uczestniczyć.

DD traktuje dobro i zło jako równe siły. W wyniku tego bożki dobre i złe mają jednakową moc. W przeciwieństwie do DD dobro i zło w Biblii nie są ukazane jako moce równe sobie. Jezus Chrystus przez swoją śmierć i zmartwychwstanie pokonał szatana. Jest wszechpotężnym Panem. Bóg zawsze odniesie zwycięstwo nad złem.

Uważam, że najbardziej podstępnym aspektem DD jest sposób, w jaki podważa ono wiarę w Jezusa Chrystusa jako Syna Bożego. Pamiętajmy, że w DD wszyscy bohaterowie traktowani są jako fantazje, łącznie z bożkami, diabłami i demonami. Jezus Chrystus jest jednym z wielu bożków w DD. Rozważmy jeden z możliwych sposobów rozumowania nastolatka podatnego na wpływy: DD to tylko gra. Potwory nie są prawdziwe, bożki nie istnieją. Jezus Chrystus jest bożkiem w DD, w związku z tym, zgodnie z DD, Jezus Chrystus nie jest prawdziwy".

Went to see the D&D movie. Wow. Just a delight. Funny, clever. The humor doesn't get in the way away of a good adventure. A movie set in the D&D world without the obnoxious fan servicing that basically ruined the Star Wars movie franchise. I'd liken it to the first season of the Mandalorean. Set IN a universe, not in service OF the universe or the director's ego. The main characters all shine. The best portrayal of a paladin I've ever seen. It reminds me a lot of 1999's The Mummy. You sort of went in maybe not expecting a lot but found a fun ride with a good cast.

The only part of the night that disappointment was my wife noted I booked seats D22 and D21 but didn't think to grab D20. Zang, she's a clever one.
