Linux2ME update

Some positive progress made it a good day; which in turn made it a good start to the week.

The dumb phone experiment will have to wait a little longer. While the phone arrived today, the battery it came with was a little spicy pillow.

I ain't risking an exploding battery so I just have to patiently wait until I source another one. Will check out some local stores tomorrow but I'm not holding much hope.

Man I thought I was dodging the bullet by not having a smart phone, but fuck, more friends and colleagues are finding a way to annoy the crap out of me via SMS.

Instead of sending nice coherent emails or calling to have a short discussion, they blast me with either epic-length SMS or streams of a half-dozen random half-thoughts in half-sentences. Each one zapping me with interruption from whatever I'm trying to do. It's almost never urgent or something related to something we're actively doing (like meeting up).

This is so disruptive and anxiety-driven and rude and unproductive. How do you people live like this!?

Amazing not only will it work on my PinePhone running mobian but even better it will work on my primary phone, a dumbphone with RAM counted in megabytes.

I am also looking forward to trying to use it on my Iyonix. Although I might need to upgrade to a later version of RISC OS.

At least I will not have to buy an Android or Apple device ever again.

På mit arbejde forsøger vi at knække koden på et velkendt problem:
Mange børn føler sig udenfor, hvis de ikke har en telefon som deres jævnaldrende. Og netop dét pres er en af de hyppigste årsager til, at en smartphone ender i børnelommen langt tidligere, end vi forældre egentlig ønskede.

The dumbphone, a Sony Ericsson Elm I used from 2010 to 2022 and only switched to a smartphone when I was forced to by a number of online services finally breaking on dumbphones post-pandemic; a move I continue to regret.

I know this sounds contradictory, but is there such a thing as a #dumbphone that runs a privacy respecting version of #android, similar to /e/OS? I'm planning to buy a phone for a kid, and I was originally looking at a #Nokia3210 or something similar. No apps or internet access. But then I wondered if a compromise existed. Specifically, it would be nice to be able to setup #owntracks on the phone, for location sharing, and maybe a few other useful apps, like #comaps. Does such a device exist? 🤔

In the meantime, I must get an up-to-date OS onto my #PinePhone. As I've said in a few posts here, I've had it since 2020, but since then I've lacked the spoons to teach myself complicated new hacker skills. Including installing mobile OS, even on a device designed to make it easier.

Speaking of the PP, maybe a range of cheap DumbPhones could be based on that tech? A quick search on the #DumbPhone tag here shows a lot of interest, and on the same tag with an "s". How about it @pine64?
