  1. Twice The Protein Of Eggs. Grows In 7 Days. Why Every Government Wants It Gone.

The video sounds pretty sensationalist, but the information seem correct from a quick check and it might be kind of a conspiracy.

Duckweed was actually approved as "Novel Food" by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in 2025.

  2. Is #duckweed really as awesome a source of protein as this video is trying to tell me? I can totally see how it would it would disrupt agriculture industries, if so.

  3. Just playing around with mirror edit with a simple #pond stone & some vibrant green #duckweed 💚

Do you see some abstract faces & creatures in this?

  4. @Broadfork
Just realised, yesterday I failed to include the photo of the #compost bin after adding the contents of the three piles of #duckweed and #dredgings.

  5. Guess what! The bay did fill up again so, this afternoon, I spent more time removing #duckweed from the #lake. Look carefully and you'll see the nearest and furthest piles are larger than in the earlier photo.

  6. I was hopeful that the #lake would stay clear of #duckweed for a while, but after I'd cleared the bay that was full of it I realised that the wind was bringing in more from other parts of the lake and the #bay would soon be full again.

  7. At 09:09 this morning I decided it was a good time to take advantage of what the #wind had done overnight. A lot of #duckweed had accumulated in one of the bays in the #lake
    visible from out lounge window.

With the aid of a angler's net attached to a long pole and a rake I managed to make a good stab of removing the weed along with some sludge and twigs found on the bed of the lake. It's now in a number of piles on the bank. I'll give it a day or two to allow #invertebrates to crawl back into the water and then move the piles to the #compost bins.

  8. I think this is my best #frog pic yet. Look at its cute little #duckweed hat!

  9. "Rescued" a bluetongue #lizard from my #pond today. It seemed happy enough, and wasn't bothered by me handling it so it was either grateful or perhaps too cold to care.
Definitely useful to have a thick layer of #duckweed on the pond though, as this is what saved it from drowning.

  10. A water skipper (or strider) and duckweed, on an oyster shell.

The small, front pair of legs are used for balance/stability, while the other two pairs of legs do the work of moving.

Growing up, I spent a lot of time swimming in the pond my father had built in the woods. Seeing water skippers always makes me flash back to slowly kicking along in the summer sunshine, with my arms over the edge of a black inner tube.

Soon to be for sale in the shop at the Seattle Art Museum. For information on purchasing, see my website: kitozbooks.com/product/painted

  11. Today, just four crops — wheat, rice, corn and soybeans — supply two-thirds of human calories. there might be a fifth: #Duckweed may become one of humanity’s first new major crops in more than a century, since soybeans introduced from China spread globally during the 1900s.

It contains the protein #Rubisco which can be formed into meat and dairy substitues. Exciting times for #veganism 😍 washingtonpost.com/climate-env
