@stavvers I had a chance to test file.pizza between two #GrapheneOS devices on my home network with predictably disappointing results.
#VanadiumBrowser didn't work for either sharing or downloading:
* security hardened #ChromiumBrowser.#DuckDuckGoBrowser works for sharing only.
#IceRaven works for sharing and downloading:
* fork of #FirefoxThat transferring files worked at all, with any combination of browsers was a surprise. 😯

@lloydjatkinson it's interesting that the article in the discussion has a popup with:
> Ad-blocker not detected
>
> Consider installing a browser extension that blocks ads and other malicious scripts in your browser to protect your privacy and security. Learn more.I often get the opposite complaint because #DuckDuckGoBrowser blocks trackers and some advertisers can't figure out how to _just_ display an advertisement.

Weird #GrapheneOS tip: sharing a link from #Vanadium to #Tusky provides both the title and the link, whereas sharing to the clipboard or most other apps only provides the link. It also works with #IceRaven, and possibly other Firefox derivatives, but NOT #DuckDuckGoBrowser. 🤬
My guess is this also works with #Android and #Chrome.
This is why I occasionally post random bookmark links, because I'm already in Tusky. May as well post. Hence https://indieweb.social/@mcrocker/112462176907098316

DuckDuckGo Browser adds private password & bookmark sync (no account required)
The key thing that sets DuckDuckGo’s search engine and web browser apart from most others is that DuckDuckGo is focused on user privacy: the company promises not to track your behavior. But that makes it tricky to offer some of the features user expect: like the ability to keep your passwords and bookmarks synchronized across multiple devices – like PCs, […]

Though I an using the #IceRaven browser, the article has gotten me thinking of looking at the #MullBrowser a little closer.
I have been using #DuckDuckGoBrowser for search and quick article reads, #Vanadium for anything I want to log into or keep session cookies, and IceRaven for longer reads or #ReadAloud.

@Linux_Is_Best someone misunderstood my intent here and blocked me!
So, to be more clear, I do use #Firefox as my primary desktop browser, and on mobile I use a combination of #IceRaven (FF based) #DuckDuckGoBrowser, and #Vanadium .
So, yes, by all means migrate away from #Chrome and forks.
But my point is that the more important fight to focus on is to block efforts to build an infrastructure to lock out users of open web technologies like #Google platform validation proposal.
-
@Linux_Is_Best I'm not nearly as concerned about how #Chrome behaves as how #Google 's proposal to add platform validation will lock out those of us using other browsers like #Mozilla #Firefox.
I've already run into sites that render as a warning that ad blocking has been detected and that it needed to be disabled before the site could be viewed ... and that was when using the #DuckDuckGoBrowser, that blocks trackers, not ads 😮

@RaphJ @af I have #IceRaven https://github.com/fork-maintainers/iceraven-browser#iceraven-browser-- installed via FFUpdater (Updater for privacy friendly browsers)
https://f-droid.org/packages/de.marmaro.krt.ffupdater/I use it when I need to use an extension or have a long read that I probably won't finish in one sitting.
I use the #DuckDuckGoBrowser for most quick reads and transient stuff
Since I am using #GrapheneOS , which has #Vanadium installed by default, I use that for sites where I want to hold onto cookies. It will be interesting how they handle this change

Is this possibly the perfect website for social media? An encrypted connection (pretty common now, but still good to see), no tracking requests and no third party requests found. Excellent.

Installed #DuckDuckGoBrowser last night, and the app tracking protection has already blocked over a thousand tracking attempts over 7 apps. I haven't even opened or interacted with some of these apps today!

@c1t7 I like it. One nice feature: It circumvents the limits imposed by various news sites on the number of articles you can read. #duckduckgobrowser
