The new chair seats an elected head of state, with no title of nobility. The #ConstitutionOfIreland bans such pretentions.
President Higgins was inaugurated twice in this new chair, in 2011 amd 2018. Today, it was used by President #CatherineConnolly.
The old royal relic has recently been carefully restored, but without its crown. It is now a museum piece, as all royalty should be.

On 16th January 1922 Michael Collins took control of Dublin Castle from the British authorities on behalf of the new Irish Free State.
