I did a very nice Duathlon training bike ride this morning in the Santa Cruz (CA) area. These photos are at the Seymour Marine Center near the Natural Bridges state park midway through the ride.
Those of us that live here learn to take advantage of a sunny morning and day. This time of year is often foggy. You can see the fog bank off in the distance in the left photo.

First run-off-the-bike workout today and I didn't fall over! 😂
Zone 2 30 minute ride followed by 5 minute zone 2 run, broken toe is a bit less sensitive now so 5 minutes was manageable. Challenging dashing across the gym floor though, but I'm sure I'll get used to it!

Sometimes by just showing up you win.
Kathy and I completed the Sprint distance Duathlon race as part of the Tri (Triathlon) Santa Cruz yesterday in Santa Cruz CA. There may have been 1000 participants, but not that many in the Sprint Duathlon, and of that, the large majority were women. Still, I showed up and came in 3rd in the men's group, quite surprisingly. I'm choosing not to check, but my guess is that there may only have been 3 men in the Sprint Duathlon.
It was a lot of fun and I felt great at the finish and today.
For those that don't know, a Triathlon is a multi-sport race that includes swim, bike, and run segments. A Duathlon replaces the swim segment with an extra run segment. A Sprint distance Duathlon is 3, 12, and 3 mile segments.

Eigentlich wollte ich heute morgen nur eine kurze Runde mit dem #gravelbike drehen. Es wurde ein unfreiwilliger #Duathlon. Nach 10 km eine Glasscherbe im Mantel und damit ein #Platten. Da ich weder Pannenset noch Pumpe dabei hatte, musste ich das Rad 9 km nach Hause schieben.

Meine #Regeneration läuft auf Hochtouren… 😅 Es war ein extrem schönes Erlebnis, letzten Sonntag an der #Duathlon #Weltmeisterschaft in #Zofingen teilzunehmen. 🤩 Ich bewältigte die Kurzdistanz und klassierte mich besser als ich es erwartete: 9. Rang von 29 in Alterskategorie, 70. von 230 im Gesamtklassement. Bin sehr happy und zufrieden. 😎

Biking versus running miles.
I've mentioned before that I'm registered for my first Duathlon next month. I'm doing the Sprint distance, which is a run, bike, run at about 3, 12, and 3 miles for this race.
Since I'm not really working today, I decided to find out how many equivalent running miles it would be if the bike portion was a run as well. I've run in many races up to a half marathon.
So I was curious, am I doing the equivalent of a half marathon in this duathlon?
As with most things, it turns out, the answer somewhat varies. The common answer is apparently that 1 running mile is about 2 to 3 biking miles depending on calories burned and some other factors.
So my 3, 12, 3 race is between 10 and 12 running miles. Not quite a half marathon.
