  1. RE: chaos.social/@Zwiebeltuete/116

#Germany wants to make getting a #drivingLicence cheaper and easier - currently DE has thorough #DriverEducation, with required classroom theory lessons, more complex theory exam than in UK and compulsory special drives in particular conditions (such as at night, on motorway)

New plans are closer to how its done in #UK and other #European nations (they also allow private practice on L plates which was previously verboten) and claim to "reduce bureaucracy and costs" on #DrivingSchools - but it seems quite rushed and sudden, and ironically many folk in UK are lobbying for our #driver training to be closer to German practice! (such as introducing the drives in special conditions)

BTW Cost of learning to drive in UK is reaching equivalent of 3000€ for todays learners

  2. This is the resulting #Court case - appears #driver did pull over 100m away and return to the scene of the #collision but its not clear when or how the authorities were able to identify him or whether he later handed himself in (he's not being separately charged with failing to stop, which would have happened if they had to look for him)

The #cyclist has recovered from his #injuries

Seems that #driver was also a bit of an #oldtimer and his health and #eyesight wasn't the best, he has since handed in his #DrivingLicence to DVLA.

His son and daughter own a #RollsRoyce dealership across the border in #Essex, which is likely how he acquired this unusual vehicle..
