For a few days, I drove a 2024 #Toyota. I'm afraid that all those #DriverAssist systems are a terrible cocktail.
Several times a day, the car would suddenly break for no reason. Dangerous! I turned that off, but after every restart, it was back on.
Changing lanes or overtaking was a struggle with the steering wheel. Lane keep!
And within a couple of days I started to rely on the automatic distance system. Toyota trained me not to break myself.

Do any of the current autopilot/driver assist technologies use their cameras to detect and take into account another vehicle's turn signal or brake lights? 🤔 #cars #self-driving #driverassist

I'm so glad my Honda Insight has driver assist systems in it that are radar & camera equipped. Saved me from an accident today where I was on a local route, going the speed limit, and a car was stopped waiting for a left hand turn. I didn't see them, but my car did!
My adaptive cruise control was on as usual, the radar/camera picked them up, and immediately started flashing BRAKE at me. I have to give credit to Honda for how quickly it predicted there would be an issue if I didn't react.
The system detected the car was stopped ~120 yards in front of me, I was not slowing, and that I needed to brake immediately. Reaction times matter at 55 mph, and doubly so on winding two lane roads with no shoulder.
It's not the first time the driver assist system has saved me from an accident, and probably not the last. Nothing like hitting the brakes at 55 mph to get down to 0.
This is also what I want driver assist systems in car to do. Level 1, level 2, whatever. Help prevent accidents by reacting faster than humans.
