The atmospheric river currently soggifying the US west coast is a good 100 miles north of me, but the big (terrestrial) rivers through and around town do have a lot of their sources up in the section of the Cascades in that rainfall's path, so we're seeing some impacts down here at my favorite accessible riverside hang too.

I love catching all the little seasonal changes with each visit - how the big beech started off with pinkish-bronze leaves in the spring, growing more intensely green during the height of summer, and now is only slowly picking up some autumn colors. Actually, all the riverside trees are hanging onto their green later than the trees in the downtown core, where there's lots of bright reds aloft.

I find myself wondering about the history of this snag. Even decapitated like this, it towers over passing pedestrians. It must have been mighty in its prime. Haven't been to visit this other nice riverside park in awhile - glad to find its parking lot relatively empty, and no longer dominated by a pickup truck with a huge American flag lashed to its bed so it trails in the mud. Got there when they opened and was out in under an hour. Only saw one other person wearing a mask, but at least their new office is big and airy.
