    In particular, Timmy was proper shitfaced at 0.131% BAC, more than twice the 0.05% limit, had a property damage collision, crossed a footpath and an oncoming traffic lane. This event had a high potential for personal injury to himself and members of the public, but all he got was a fine and a 1 year driving suspension.

  8. In Latvia, cars seized from people who are three times over the drink drive limit are being sent to Ukraine. The authorities have pledged to sent 24 cars a week to a charity who specialises in providing cars to Ukraine.

    The first eight cars are heading to Ukraine this week. The former owners were all caught with blood alcohol levels above 0.15%.

    Cars confiscated by state authorities are usually sold, recycled or disassembled for spare parts but Latvian authorities thought that these vehicles could be used to help Ukrainians.

  10. Interesting video - attitudes to impending then-new drink-driving laws in the 1960s, from patrons of a “typical motorists’ pub” who would habitually drive after drinking. At the time, alcohol contributed to more than 13,000 fatal or serious “accidents” in a year on the roads. It’s interesting how familiar today some of these arguments against the law still are e.g., with phone driving laws, speeding etc.
