Custom chart types in Matplotlib can be fairly challenging to work with due to the object model, but there are alternatives. #DrawBot has straightforward state-based interface to draw your own custom charts.

By using it as a module in JupyterLab
it is easy to combine with e.g. Pandas & you can have have immediate visual feedback too. (Mac only)

for a little feature suggestion for Drawbot: Would be awesome to have a quick ”copy output as svg/pdf" functionality, for smooth integration with Illustrator/Inkscape.

I gave the AI a Joni Mitchel lyric from Hejira, 1976. It did this. Pretty high-concept for such a simple line. I like it. ( 5 colours, 1.5 hours of drawing with mixed pens).

I think I mentioned it a few years ago, maybe, my mind plays tricks on my personal timelines. It looks like it is slowly progressing.

I wish the #Processing, #Python and #DrawBot communities had more interactions!

If you like the idea of drawing with code, and, better still, drawing with Python, and you don't have a crazy expensive Mac*, you should try #shoebot shoebot.net or #py5 py5coding.org (or even if you do have a crazy expensive Mac...)

Bei all meiner Begeisterung für DrawBot und meiner vorgestern frisch erwachten Liebe zur Knotenschachtel (aka Nodebox 1) störte mich doch ein wenig, daß ich mit beiden Programmen wieder sehenden Auges in die Mac only-Falle tappe.
