Mastodon friends and followers, It’s been a while. A few years ago, the wife of a dear friend commissioned me to draw their sphinx cat. Normally I would have said NO to this. I don’t do animal portraits and rarely take commissions. My piece has finally been framed and I could not be happier. #scastio #artist #draughtsman #storyteller #picturemaker #penandink #drawing #animals #blackandwhite #ink #traditionalart #artistonmastodon #art

A few years ago, the wife of a dear friend contacted me about a commission. I don’t do commissions and I don’t do animal portraits but I was willing to make an exception. I’m glad I did — I ended up doing one of the best drawings I’ve ever done. Happy #caterday. #scastio #artist #storyteller #draughtsman #picturemaker #drawing #penandink #catsofmastodon #art #sphnix #saturday

For four decades, I’ve loved flamenco. I love all of it: cante, toque, and baile. Traditional Andalusian flamenco has a magic that’s hard to describe. Spanish Gitanos keep this centuries-old tradition alive in their singing, guitar playing, and dancing. This drawing of Estrella Morente, one of the finest flamenco cantaoras of the moment, in my sketchbook, and I thought I’d share it. #scastio #artist #draughtsman #drawing #portrait #pendandink #flamenco #art

This morning I started my day with a cup of coffee, and David Bowie on my iPod as I journaled. Songs like Changes and Life On Mars will never get old. I did this drawing of David a few years ago; it’s a transitional piece — my style was evolving into something that was much closer to who I am. 2017.
