  1. The label intended for a designed-but-never-proposed giant #inflatable #Dragoneer tribute that was meant to tour conventions. (It was shelved due to knockoff concerns and me struggling to scrape up enough courage to talk to Susan.)

  6. Signed up for a #FurAffinity Plus Membership in honor of #Dragoneer's legacy. I’m committed to keeping it as long as the website remains as friendly and open as it was under his administration.

It's so fucking absurd and depressing they still try make someone else pay for the medical expenses of the person of someone who passed away, they're vultures. Those medical bills should be void after someone's passing.

I also just want to remind you of possible scams when it comes to Fundraisers, and double check before before sending anything.

Now that I got that warning out the way, if you're able and isn't going to put any financial strain on yourself, then go check out and donate to the GoFundMe fundraiser campaign for Dragoneer's passing to help support cover these insane expensive costs for medical bills and more.

To begin, Amazon has it for $30 and I would like to reimburse $30 (any version) for the first 10 or however many I can manage until Sept. 1 for whom it might provide solace for the untimely passing of Dragoneer, best known for his Murasadramon fursona. 15. Words are hard- I didn't have a lot of contact with Dragoneer but he always seemed to be such a positive, energetic, fun loving guy and appreciator of the arts. It was a pleasure seeing him over the years all the way back in the furry newsgroup days. Truly sorry to see him go :(
... at least he's not alone!

  22. I don't have a lot to say about the #Dragoneer situation, but it is sad to have lost someone so important to connecting furries for over 2 decades through one website.

If I can make a suggestion: I think this would be an excellent time for the furries to gather, coordinate, write their constituents and government entities and look into options to solve the US healthcare crisis.

Use your frustration, your anger, your sadness, and your disappointment as your motivation so that this doesn't happen again.

You have a lot of power together. Use it. 🫂💖

  28. CW: Dragoneer and the Future of FurAffinity: What we know

I’m seeing a lot of wild speculation about the future of FA now that Dragoneer has died. Here is, to the best of my knowledge, what we know as of the time of this post.

    What We Know

    1. Dragoneer died last night.
    2. The US healthcare system failed him.
    3. Dragoneer was an owner—and possibly the owner—of Frost Dragon Art LLC.
    4. Frost Dragon Art LLC is the legal entity that owns FurAffinity and has owned FA since February 2021.

    What We Don’t Know

    1. Whether there were other owners in Frost Dragon Art LLC that will be responsible for continuing operations. The February 2021 announcement said Dragoneer was the sole proprietor but that was 3½ years ago.
    2. If there were any legal plans in place for the transfer of Frost Dragon Art LLC to another person or entity in the event of Dragoneer’s death.
    3. If Dragoneer had a will and, if he did, whether or not that will provided specific directions for the future of FurAffinity and/or Frost Dragon Art LLC.
    4. How Frost Dragon Art LLC will be handled by the courts if it’s part of Dragoneer’s estate and goes through probate.

    Pure Speculation

Any rumors regarding the future of FurAffinity are currently just that: rumors. Until we have more information, we can’t even make reasonable guesses as to what might happen to the site and its contents.

Here are a few possible scenarios based on what we know.

    • FurAffinity continues to operate on autopilot. Bills are automatically paid by the LLC, out of accounts controlled by the LLC, even while the LLC’s ownership is in question.
    • FurAffinity comes under new ownership. The new owner could do as they please, ranging from maintaining the status quo to making radical changes to the site.
    • FurAffinity is gracefully shut down in the coming three to eighteen months. Artists will have time to find new homes for their work.
    • FurAffinity abruptly shuts down due to the LLC missing a payment to a hosting provider. Chaos ensues.

I don’t feel comfortable placing odds on those various scenarios. However, it’s probably a good idea to back up anything you care about on FA, whether that’s your own work or someone else’s. That’s been true since the site launched and it’s still true today.

I know your feed is full of this sort of things but I figured I'd share some (poorly worded) feelings as well. I've not been active in the fandom like ever, but it's always been some part of me, as has fA.

In these past few years of social media unrest and megacorps screwing over their users, furAffinity has been the only site that it felt that was above all that. A light in the darkness, so to speak. Supporting furries in the fight against AI and NFTs.

Sure it's had its rough times and controversies, as has apparently Dragoneer (I've not really followed him at all) himself. But overall fa has been a great boon to the fandom, and instrumental in its growth and even it's nsfw-friendly culture. I think all of his actions have been net-positive at the very least.

There's certainly going to be lots of changes in the future, in both fA and the world in general. But hopefully we can look back at fA with fondness and appreciate just how great it was or remains being.

  38. I've needed some time to process the death of #dragoneer

While he was a controversial person to some at times, he also gave and did so much for the furry community. To the point where he was mentioned in the Furry Nation book along other luminaries like Sysable (Mark Merlino) who we also recently lost.

I met Dragoneer once, very briefly at a con a bajillion years ago. He actually knew who I was. I was completely blown away. It was so long ago that I don't remember his face and it was just a few minutes anyway.

Everyone I've ever met who interacted with him had nothing but positive things to say.

So far this year 3 shining stars are no longer with us. A friend, Sigma, a close associate, Sysable, and now Dragoneer.

On a bit of a selfish note, I'm two years older than Dragoneer. A harsh reminder to enjoy life as much as I can and to remember and celebrate the ones who have touched and enriched our lives.

Dragoneer, I didn't know you, but we will all miss you. 🦊 ❤️ 🥂

Dragoneer, I didn't know you, but we will all miss you. 🦊 ❤️ 🥂

  42. CW: Death of a fandom icon

Sometimes the most important thing a person can ever say is "I was here."
    —Dragoneer, May 19th, 2024

I woke up today to the saddening news of Dragoneer's passing.

I never really spoke to him or had much of any meaningful encounters with him. Yet his presence was somehow always felt. He was a constant in the fandom.

Throughout my life, the fandom has been the most formative experience and a pillar for me personally and continues to be to this day.

Back when I was just figuring out what furry even was in my early teens, it made me feel right at home and it made me feel safe and at ease; something I was seriously lacking in my day-to-day. The fandom and the people in it helped me figure myself out, showed me that I am worthy of friendship and love.

And it all started on FA.

I still remember when I was frequenting early artist home pages, one among them being Dragoneer's home page where I was fascinated with his drawings (some of which I cringily used as avatars on MSN Messenger, flashing all of my contacts with dragon dicks). I frequently checked his website for updates and new art because I really enjoyed his works.

Then one day as updates slowed, I saw a notice that he's been very busy with a new project called, you guessed it, Fur Affinity. Since I wanted to keep up with his art, I signed up in 2006 and that is the account I'm still using to this day.

I've met the loveliest people through Fur Affinity and it was my main hub well into my late 20s. Without FA I wouldn't be the person I am today by virtue of the connections it allowed me to forge with a global community that I share a strong bond with, stronger than I ever felt. It is home to me, it made me feel like I finally found a place of belonging I've searched for my whole life.

Sure, not everything has been sunshine and rainbows all the time and a bunch of questionable decisions have been made in the past. A lot of conflicts were fought over the place that lots of people call their home, because they care immensely that it can be the best version of itself and be the safe haven that they came to know and hold dear.

But I am of the firm believe that the decisions, no matter how controversial, were made with the best intentions in mind to keep this place going. That we have a community owned space to return to. Free from profit chasing overlords that are running the places we used to hang out on into the ground.

For all intents and purposes, Fur Affinity has been a pillar of the fandom for decades and I am glad it's still around and kicking. It might not seem as bustling as it once was, but it is home.

I am sure Dragoneer felt the same way and was willing to carry out the role of the owner of this website despite all adversities he faced while he was doing so. For that, he deserves nothing less than the utmost respect.

From the bottom of my heart: Thank you, Dragoneer! May you rest easy now that you left us with a monumental labor of love that continues to be there for us to this day!

You left your mark on the fandom.

    You were here.

The hospital sent #Dragoneer home while suffering from pneumonia having a high fever.

They said he needed to wait two weeks for the biopsy results. No further treatment.

They knew what they were doing.

They sent him home to die.

With some bureaucratic excuse for plausible deniability.

But in reality he was murdered for cost saving reasons.

He could have hired a hitman on himself and get out of it with less suffering and less debt, and just as dead.

Americans why are you so fucking stupid to support this exploitative, misanthropic system.

First off, my condolences to family and friends of Dragoneer. I have personally never dealt with him, outside of maybe one or two comments on my work from him, or him commenting on my comments.

I knew the US healthcare system was a capitalist he'll hole, but I never thought that they would outright allow someone to simply die because he didn't pay his bills from a previous emergency...

That being said, I really hope that Dragoneer has transferred ownership of FA to someone of the core Admin Team, or someone else who's a core part of the fandom.

Because I would hate to see lawyers, most likely from the hospital trying to still get 'their money' get their hands on FA and then sell it to some 'AI' company, who see the artwork on FA as feedstock for their generative algorithm... and then opens the page to generated slip. We've all seen what happened to DA...

Or worse, someone trying to PGfy the site in a misguided attempt to make it 'family friendly,
