2/2Operations: Crews will continue to work the southwest corner of the fire and are expected to go direct as well as building contingency lines to control the advance of the fire in that area. Crews will also go direct on the creeping fire on the Walhalla Plateau. On the remainder of the fire’s perimeter crews will continue to patrol and monitor established lines to be ready to address any spotting across those lines. Water tenders will continue to perform the intricate job of drawing from multiple sources to supply up to 140,000 gallons of water per day for both ground and air operations.
Weather and Smoke: Humidity will begin to rise, but fire weather remains near critical. Cloud cover will increase. Winds may reach 30 mph. There is a 10% chance of showers which are not expected to bring significant precipitation. Smoke will remain visible from surrounding areas, including the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Residents and visitors impacted by the smoke are encouraged to monitor local air quality conditions at outlooks.wildlandfiresmoke.net.
Evacuations & Closures: Information about current closures on Grand Canyon National Park can be found on the National Park Service website https://www.nps.gov/grca/northrimstatus.htm. The North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will remain closed for the duration of the 2025 season.

August 6th in the CAB Auditorium Page High School, 434 S Lake Powell Blvd, Page, Arizona. Both public meetings will be held at 6 PM MST (Arizona Time). Speakers will include members of the team and administrators from Kaibab National Forest and Grand Canyon National Park. Both meetings will be livestreamed on the Dragon Bravo Facebook page. ASL and live captioning will be provided.
Highlights: Hotshot crews, assisted by heavy machinery, made good progress on the southwest corner of the fire yesterday. This part of the fire is in rugged terrain and has been very difficult to address. On the west flank of the fire, the lines held steady. On the north end, fire crews continued to hold the line across the top of the fire. On the eastern part of the perimeter, fingers of fire continued to burn through rough terrain. Crews in the area searched for opportunities to go direct when deemed safe and beneficial.

On both the east and west sides of the fire, crews will continue to patrol the established lines to ensure quick response if the fire jumps the lines in those areas. On the north end of the fire, there remains the possibility the fire will jump the lines and move north into unburned fuels. Public Meeting: Southwest Area Complex Incident Management Team 2 will host a public meeting on Tuesday, August 5th at the Fredonia High School, 221 E Hortt Street, Fredonia, Arizona at 6 PM MST (Arizona Time). Speakers will include members of the team, and administrators from Kaibab National Forest and Grand Canyon National Park.
Highlights: Yesterday saw a return of near-critical fire weather. Low humidity recovery at night was followed by humidity dropping as low as 10% and wind gusts hitting 35 mph. Despite the poor firefighting weather, crews held the line they put in to the north where the fire is trying to skirt the 2023 Kane Fire.
On the west side of the fire’s perimeter, the control lines held except near the south end where the flanking motion of the fire continued. On the east side, there was very little activity. Firefighters on night shift walked sections of the fire’s eastern edge testing for heat to determine if more of the line can be declared contained.
Operations: The safety of firefighters and the public remains a top priority. On the southwest flank, the fire is approaching the 2003 Poplar Fire burn scar. A change in vegetation in the burn scar is primarily aspen which may slow the fire, allowing firefighters more opportunities to go direct.

Jul 28 at 10:11 AM EDTLatest Update: SW Area Complex Incident Management Team Two has taken command of the Dragon Bravo Fire on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Containment has decreased to 13% following updated perimeter mapping & recent fire growth. Yesterday saw a significant push 3 to 4 miles to the north, particularly on the western flanks. Spot fires were confirmed in North Canyon, and extreme fire behavior was observed with pyrocumulus columns developing to heights of 24,000 feet. While there was limited movement in the SE & SW corners, the northern runs were driven by continued SW winds & critically dry conditions.
Operations: The Dragon Bravo Fire is expected to continue pushing NE throughout today. Firefighters focus on active suppression, with safety as the top priority. Crews are encouraged to remain alert to rapidly changing conditions, as circumstances are increasingly challenged by terrain, fuels, & wind. Scouts will continue evaluating contingency lines along Forest Road 223 & adjacent meadows. Firefighters continue protecting values at risk. Crews continue structure & wildlife assessment and preparations in the House Rock area, NE of the fire. Firefighters maintain presence around the Kaibab Lodge & other infrastructure near the North Park Entrance, ensuring rapid response if needed...

2/2Weather & Smoke: Friday marks another day of critically dry and windy conditions. Winds gusted up to 25 mph from the southwest, and relative humidity dropped to 8%. Today is forecasted to be the windiest and driest day of the fire, with gusts up to 30 mph and near red flag conditions. Smoke will remain visible from surrounding areas, including the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
Evacuations & Closures: Information about current closures on Grand Canyon National Park can be found on the National Park Service website. The North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will remain closed for the duration of the 2025 season. U.S. Route 89A has reopened, though Grand Canyon Highway (state Route 67) remains closed.

Jul 26 at 11:28 AM EDTLatest Update: Fire activity increased on the Dragon Bravo Fire on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park Friday. Record-breaking dry air and gusty winds pushed the fire north. Fire behavior intensified on the western flank, northeast of the Saddle Mountain Wilderness. Firefighters worked to monitor, scout, and reinforce lines while also preparing for potential structure protection needs.
Ongoing & Planned Operations: Strong winds led to increased fire activity yesterday. Twenty-five mph gusts pushed the western flank of the Dragon Bravo Fire further north of the bison exclosure. Winds also led to a spot fire northeast of the Saddle Mountain Wilderness, east of Forest Road 445A. Firelines established along Forest Road 610 held yesterday. Firefighters continue to scout additional contingency line options northwest of the fire near Lookout Tower Road. Crews completed protection around the Kaibab Lodge and are now evaluating protection options for nearby historic structures. Aircraft resources remain prepared for increased fire activity on canyon edges and potential spread into grass and sagebrush areas at lower elevations.
