Great fun, #paddling & drumming in our first races! We did pretty good, considering we've had only 7 practices. We beat a more experienced team that has trained twice/week for a few years in our last race with time of 1:08 minutes!

Good last May training day with our #ParaDragonboating team, Storm the Gorge. We've only had 7 team practices in #VictoriaBC's 1st #PilotProgram for #PeopleWithDisabilities, running out of #FairwayGorgePaddlingClub on Jutland in #BurnsideGorge area. After practice wrap debriefing, I performed an Indigenous water song, to honour the waters we train & will be racing on & to protect our team on the waters.

Officials from the Aboriginal Sport Circle have named this year’s winners of the Tom Longboat Awards. And there’s a surprise repeat winner in the male category and an older athlete named in the female category.

Rode my bike to #bussewoods to see the #chicago #dragonboat festival yesterday. It was fascinating to see the teams race with their boats! Topped the trip off with a nice meal at a Mediterranean fast food place near Woodfield. #biking #schaumburg

Beijing is sweltering right now. The Dragon Boat Festival was last weekend. To me, this is the most interesting event in China. One of the origins, there are a few, has to do with a poet, Qu Yuan. His suicide by drowning brought out local boats to save him. After he couldn't be saved, sticky rice was dropped into the Miluo River to lure the fish away from eating his body. There's lots to learn about China. Ignore the CCP, study the history.
