I remembered that I bought this many years ago, but I never even unwrapped it. My PS3 is still working, but I hadn't started it in years. After a system update I am now installing the game …

I'm 100% sure these are the franchises that #EA will sell to start paying their $18B debt:
- #MassEffect: large dev time
- #DragonAge: same
- #DeadSpace: survival horror doesn't sell
- #MirrorsEdge: parkour is too niche
- #CommandAndConquer: RTS is so 2000
- #DungeonKeeper: same
- #Populus: same
- #Burnout: market shifted to sims
- #ArmyOfTwo: they have BF
- #MedalOfHonor: same
- #Syndicate: sameIt's a large list. It's worth $500M, give or take. $1.7B to go LOL.

Had an argument about Dragon Age which started out as me defending some of its less pleasant aspects (e.g. misogyny existing in the setting) and ended with people getting mad at me for saying Fereldans are racist barbarians who regularly slaughter elves & lobotomize mages
And I feel like if I weren't so tired I could make a salient point about how the flip side of needing media to be sanitized & unproblematic is the need to whitewash the things that you do like

dragon age: awakening's cast is genuinely so good. like there isn't a single companion i don't really like (except for oghren, who i want to grind into a thin paste)
it really is a tragedy that the dlc is incredibly short and thus you don't actually get to spend much time with them at all. like howe starts off resenting you for killing his dad and an hour later you're buddies

spent like several weeks trying to get my friend who was a big fan of dragon age: origins to play the rest of the games in the series and instead she
- started multiple new DA:O playthroughs
- finally finished one of them
- played leliana's song and then decided she didn't want to do awakening on the character she finished the game with
- started several more DA:O playthroughs

Honestly one of the things I resent most about Veilguard is its secret ending wherein it introduces a new big bad and retroactively makes some of the most iconic villains of the series *actually* just be the result of said big bad's manipulation
Like the game itself is already a *mess* and now y'all want to cheapen the rest of the franchise for the sake of a sequel that is literally never going to happen? Come on!!!!!!!!!!!

Close to finishing my second run of Dragon Age: Origins, and returning to it after Veilguard was downright *refreshing*, but it has worn on me since. The game's combat... has not aged well. At all. Neither has the constant backtracking, or the fact that as a rogue, all I get is reskins of a *single* battle skirt...
But the sheer amount of reactivity and choice it offers is unmatched in the rest of the series. For all its lows, DA:O's highs are mountain peaks.

I know I have friends here who are into Dragon Age, any of you also CK3 nerds?
My son's been a part of the team doing a total conversion mod for CK3.
All the CK3 shenanigans, set in the lore of DA (about 700 yrs before the events of the games - hugely steeped in all the lore)

i do appreciate how the character creation screen for dragon age: origins tells you that men and women are equal in thedas and then you start the game and it's full to the brim of misogyny, questionable and / or deeply problematic references to SA, and the vast majority of important jobs and positions seem to be held primarily by men
