Au hasard d'une lecture, je suis tombé sur une citation en anglais faisant l'éloge de l'Auvergne, attribuée à Sidoine Apollinaire, sans source. Évidemment, coller la phrase ou des fragments dans un moteur de recherche ne donnait rien. J'ai donc cherché "arvern" et "auvergne" dans tous les textes latins du bonhomme (poèmes et lettres) et leurs traductions françaises. Sans succès : le terme revient fréquemment, mais jamais dans une formulation pouvant faire penser à la citation... Sur le point d'abandonner, j'ai eu l'idée de chercher plutôt "patrie", et bingo ! "Notre patrie [l'Auvergne] est agréable à ceux qui voyagent, rapporte aux laboureurs d'abondantes moissons, plaît aux chasseurs, présente des montagnes couvertes de pâturages, des coteaux chargés de vignes, des plaines embellies de fermes, des châteaux sur les lieux escarpés, d'épaisses forêts, des champs cultivés, des vallons arrosés de sources, des précipices entourés de fleuves ; elle est telle, en un mot, que des étrangers, après l'avoir vue une fois, ont souvent oublié leur patrie."
Voilà, je peux enfin reprendre une activité normale (i.e., travailler).

Festival Down The Rabbit Hole heeft de eerste namen voor de editie van 2026 bekendgemaakt. Onder anderen Florence + The Machine en The xx komen naar het festival op de Groene Heuvels in Beuningen, maakte de organisatie woensdag bekend.

Tijdens het festival Down The Rabbit Hole wordt het een stuk minder warm dan aan het begin van de week. De temperaturen liggen komend weekend in Beuningen rond de 25 graden, meldt Weeronline. In de nacht kan het afkoelen tot 14 graden.

But they are kinda fun, and I have realised that this simple test process of building them from cubes won't cut it for serious usage, it just assumes far to hard that every vert/edge/face at the same position, is supposed to be the *same* vert/edge/face, but if you want to add wrinkles, for example, you will want to add a zero-width notch in the surface, mark the bottom of it as sharp, and then let the smoothing on the two outer edges pull them apart enough to become visible...
I really could use some asymmetric smoothing too, no point continuing to divide a surface that is already as small as I ever want to go...
Ah, well, work for another day...
I'll share the repo, in case anyone wants to fiddle with it... I might just make it a touch shinier first...

Remembering a conversation about someone enjoying retro-gaming and ending up having to maintain the ancient hardware on which it runs.
Then @virtuosew recounts the tale of someone who enjoyed knitting, and then thought "Ooh, crochet looks fun", then "Hmm, I need to dye my own yarns".
This was duly followed by "Spinning is interesting", then building their own spinning wheel after finding that hand-spinning was too slow.
Now they own a flock of sheep.

A few years ago I went on a journey down the guitar strings rabbit hole, looking for a new brand of strings to play. I eventually settled on one (Stringjoy) and have never looked back.
I think it’s time for a similar voyage, this time searching for new picks. Silly, right? Picks… those little tiny things. How can they make that much of a difference? Well, trust me… they make an epically huge difference.
I put a post on the /guitar subreddit today asking for suggestions. I’ve had over 20 responses in the last hour or so. So many ideas. So many things to try. So epically epic of a journey to undertake.

@flowinho der feine Unterschied zwischen „ja Papa, weil du sie dafür bezahlst“ und „ja Papa, weil du für sie da bist“. Verschiedene Level von Abhängigkeitsverhältnissen. Eins davon kann man kündigen. Bei dem anderen hilft selbst Ableben nicht.
