The Chambers Beneath was released in July 2025, and shortly afterwards, the #DOSember game jam was announced. My latest bit of #DOSember fun: setting up IPX networking! I finally got TCP/IP going successfully for the first time (after having had trouble getting packet drivers to work in the past), so this seemed like the logical next step.
A bit of searching led me to the important details. There are two common ways of doing IPX:
* The Novell IPX/SPX stack: LSL.COM, an ODI driver, and IPXODI.COM
* Alternative method: a packet driver and PDIPX.COM or IPXPD.COM🧵 1/2

We're 2/3 of the way through #DOSember! I still have at least one non-gaming project I want to get done before the end of the month, but I've gotta catch up on streaming too.
Planning on #GoingLive in about half an hour to play some #Strife! This is a first-person RPG made with the Doom engine, released in 1996 after a troubled production. It flopped in the market and may have been the death knell for its publisher Velocity.

I beat the game on medium difficulty as the Mage. I played the Cleric last time so that just leaves the Fighter. And I suppose I should play the Deathkings expansion sometime too! But that's for later. There's still a bit over a week left in #DOSember so I'd like to get one more game in. I'm thinking Strife.

Based on the replies so far it looks like OpenVPN might be a better choice, if only because it also supports Windows and Mac OS rather than being Linux/BSD-only like VDE.
In any case, it's probably too late to really get people on board for this #DOSember, but maybe something to aim for next year?
