Hey, did you enjoy Baldur's Gate 3? Do you want more of the same design philosophy with fresh characters and underlying systems? Good news! GOG has Larian's Divinity: Original Sin II Definitive Edition on sale for $11.25.
You don't need to have played any of the previous Divinity games, and I won't argue you should. They're very much... of their time, and much harder to enjoy these days. D:OS2 does a great job of building out its own world independent of the existing lore.
D:OS2 doesn't use the D&D5e system or the Forgotten Realms but don't worry, the system they use is very good.
This game was why they got to build BG3. But that doesn't mean it's just an audition; it's a wonderful story and game by its own merits.

I am at that stage in DOS2 where as a new* player I am overwhelmed with the area and don't know where to go in what order.
*I started it three times when it was new, and it never clicked with me. Turns out that ignoring the overwhelming opinion that you should play as an origin character makes wonders. I am far more invested playing a custom character.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 Now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2

So I finally finished Divinity Original Sin 2 for the first time. I do have to say it's not as touching as Baldur's Gate 3 but I like that we have fleshed out characters instead of just flat exposition. I completed it with Lohse, an opera singer with a demon for a heart.
I like the build system and freedom of development more in DoS2 than in BG3 but I like BG3s story telling more. I noted lots of nods to other games and media like Dark Souls ( pictured, a key item in DS3 is the coiled sword ) and also how Tarquin literally says he will travel to another dimension where he heard of creatures that control and eat minds at the end was a direct nod to their next project.
I'd also argue the writing is better because everything needs to be told in words because gestures and cutscenes to tell a story did not exist back then. I 11/10 recommend DoS2 if you like CRPGs.

@thatfrisiangirlish in the same vein of wth fans of Larian I am playing #dos2 and the character Lohse is inhabited by a demon, Adramahlihk. Standard male abuser rhetoric the whole game like absolutely horrid.
A random comment "Lohse and Adramahlihk have such a dynamic. I feel a romance should be available". What in the WHAT?! This man is literally like over the top textbook abusive. Destroying everything she loves. Punishing her for joy. Physically abusive verbally too?! The hets are not okay if this is what you want. -
Veña, a quinta vai a vencida. Esta vez só somos dous xogando e podemos coordinarnos moito mellor para xogar, a ver se non volvemos deixar o xogo pouco despois de chegar a costa da parca.

@neurovagrant I love it!
But fortify is of course not enough, we also need to use frost shield! #DOS2

okay linux fans. I'm trying to get Divinity Original Sin 2 running on Kubuntu 22.04 under steam and proton, and it's just not doing it. I've tried most or all of the online suggestions w/r/t copying certain files and setting different flags and proton versions, but nothing past a black screen. anything I'm missing?

yay to a surprise CNY sale, boo to very few of my wishlisted games actually being on discount >:(
just 17 out of infinity for me, and just 2 out of 13 on my partner's account. would've been the perfect time to get her a copy of #DOS2 but nvm then.

I bought #DivinityOriginalSin2 a while back for cheap during a #Steam sale while #BaldursGate3 was hot since I wanted to test the waters since I've never played any of these "paper" #RPG #games.
Finally tried playing it yesterday, and while I'm very early into the #game, I actually... loved it. I honestly thought it was gonna be boring, but it was not. The voice acting and narration were all honestly great and adds to the game, even recognised some familiar voices that were also in #Witcher3 (i.e. Johnny from W3, Trice in #DOS2). Runs perfectly on my #SteamDeck as well as my #EndeavourOS PC.
Now I'm just HOPING I could get my partner to be on board with this game too, so I could play with her. There aren't many (fun) games I could play with her since most I'm interested in are 3D games that requires you to move/fight etc. while controlling the camera simultaneously. This game being a top down 3D, and having turn based combat, means that controlling the camera wouldn't be a problem. Also AFAIK, games like this are more fun to be played in multiplayer sessions. -
While waiting for the next #BaldursGate3 hotfix so that the game hopefully recognizes my quest items again, I revisited my 2nd #Divinity Original Sin 2 playthrough.
While #BG3 is arguably better in almost every regard, playing #DOS2 feels like coming home.
I actually prefer the combat in DOS2. Oh, and also the gear in #BaldursGate is boring in comparison.

Wenn ich es nicht schon hätte, würde ich es mir spätestens jetzt kaufen!

It's not much but it's honest work.
I've finally found all the Divinity Original Sin 2 Portraits. Fane, Lohse, Ifan, Beast, Sebille and Red Prince. #bg3 #baldursgate3 #dos2 #divinityoriginalsin2 -
#baldursgate 3 has been re-scheduled to avoid clashing with the release of #starfield. It will be available for PC in less than a month! The console release has been postponed to adress perfomance optimisation.
I have already played the early access and I loved it! You will, too, if you liked #Divinity Original Sin (#DOS2).
I have yet to come to terms with the combat but apart from that this will be one of the #gaming highlights in what is already a great year for #videogames - hands down!

@britt I'm going to pick Wildermyth, Guildwars 2, Dorfromantik, Loop Hero and Ultimate Chicken Horse as my favourite games I played this year with honorable mention for Divinity: Original Sin 2 which I keep coming back to.

Long-time Fediverse denizen, new to mstdn.games , and new to video gaming.
Been a #TTRPG nerd for decades, though.
I'm #disabled. My wife encouraged me to try #CRPG s as a follow-on as I have very little capacity for table-top, and we'd just got kiddo a #NintendoSwitch.
I got hooked and 10 months later got a #SteamDeck.
Current obsession is #DivinityOriginalSin2 #DOS2, though I also play some #RogueLikes / #Roguelites. Kiddo helps with #ForTheKing.

Tribute to #DOS2 Red Prince, for being a reliable tank with great armor design. My love for this game is truly unparalleled.
