CW: Winter sims in OpenSim are closing again, now that Christmas is over; CW: long (over 850 characters)
In other news:
Christmas is over, and so is almost the year. Snow-covered themes are being shut down again, and it won't be long after New Year's Day that OpenSim is back to its usual eternal summer until October. And then we'll have one month of autumn in a few places because autumn and Halloween are basically the same here.
Good thing there are a few exceptions. @Kelso Uxlay's Novale on his own grid probably still changes its seasons along with real-life Québec. Jimmy Olsen's Norge in the Wolf Territories shares its weather and daycycle with real-life northern Norway; his Alfheim used to do the same. And there are a few permanent winter or Christmas places; Dorenas World has three of them.

Please welcome @Dorena Verne! She is the admin of Dorenas World, the oldest German OpenSim grid and the third-oldest OpenSim grid that is still around (officially launched in January, 2010).
She has also got a Hubzilla channel under @Dorena Verne, but it has fallen dormant.

I do hope that OSgrid will come back online before the weekend.
@Dorena Verne has announced that she will update Dorenas World to OpenSim 0.9.3.0 this weekend, and if OSgrid doesn't come back until then, both grids I'm on will be offline simultaneously.
And I'm not going to join yet another grid.

Just yesterday I learned that Dorenas World is not on ZetaWorlds' blocklist anymore.
And it hasn't been since April, 2023.
ZetaWorlds' way of keeping avatars from blocked grids out is by first letting them in, then telling them their grid is not welcome and then, after not even ten seconds, logging them out entirely.
I guess that's so annoying that I never wanted to test whether we're still blocked.

CW: Sighting of a lioness with her family in a virtual world; CW: eye contact, ec, stale meme, only Germans will get this
While going around #DorenasWorld and taking pictures for our #HypergridInternationalExpo booth, I came across something alarmingly dangerous.
A #lioness.
And a male lion.
And three cubs.
I regret nothing.

It's frightening how fragile the sims which I've listed in my mesh clothes shopping guide for the #Ruth2 family seem to be.
When the guide was still an unfinished draft, 100 Dresses disappeared from Catena di isole on the #VirtualHG grid. It has yet to resurface. Until then, the line is commented out.
Even earlier, Remmy Ravenhurst closed her sims in #OSgrid to start her own grid together with Tanned Babe. She has made a whole lot of textures for older mesh clothes. I'm still waiting for the grid to open. Another commented-out line.
Not long after I've published the guide, #DorenasWorld suffered from hard drive failure and spent three weeks offline during which it was impossible to get certain Klarabella Karamell creations and almost impossible to get the Deva Moda products. Now Klara is leaving the grid and relocating her own sims to OSgrid so I have to edit these lines. I myself am looking for a
While Dorenas World was already down, #Artdestiny got into software-side trouble, but it came back quickly.
The #EtheriaGrid had its own share of trouble several times, making certain exclusive textured #Clutterfly items unavailable. I hope it's halfway stable now.
Sabi Breen has completely redesigned Shopaholic once again, and she has yet to bring back her Damien Fate clothes.
Recently, Cloe Kegel, owner of the #Astralia Shopping City, posted something that sounded like she had also closed Shopping City for reconstruction. This could have meant the removal of older layer and mesh items, some of which can only be found there anymore. Fortunately, Shopping City is still open and complete.
And just a few minutes ago, I thought that Birch Grove on #Neverworld had been shut down in favour of its own spring variant which lacks some of the original's shops. It's still there, just not listed on #OpenSimWorld anymore. The spring variant with its new pride shop will receive a special mention when I make my list of shops with layer clothes useful for #BakesOnMesh bodies like Ruth2 v4.

I've been productive again for a change. Productive enough to have something to offer.
Recently, I've put out the first five boxes with #Clutterfly items which I've upgraded to #SFposer. The first two of them contain stuff I've converted months ago already.
My first SFposer conversions were the bean bag chairs. Linda herself had already converted them from MLP to PMAC. The Clutterfly OAR still contains the original MLP versions of everything, but I've got two sources for the PMAC conversions. In theory, conversion from PMAC to SFposer is easy; both use the same notecard format, and you only have to remove the PMAC script and add a few SFposer items. In practice, I usually clear the items of all remains of older sit scripts and customise the settings for the specific use-case.
Next came the bathtubs, my only conversions from MLP so far. Linda didn't convert them to PMAC because they've got props controlled by the sit script which PMAC doesn't support. SFposer does, but the coordinates for the props have to be converted into a different format. It took me a while to figure that out. In fact, unlike MLP, SFposer even supports attaching props to avatars, so I changed the magazine from a static, hovering prop to one that attaches to the avatar's right hand. Eventually, I could get the bathtubs done after planning and eventually discarding new features which turned out not to work as planned, if at all.
I've packaged both sets on Sunday. And while I was at it, I've also converted the beach towels, the innertubes and the pool floaties from PMAC to SFposer and packaged them.
For now, you can get them in #DorenasWorld in Santiago at the Kaufrausch Mega-Store. They can be found on the ground floor where you rez on arrival anyway, placed inside my own prim shelves which you can get there, too.
In case you're wondering why I've done all that: The advantages of SFposer over PMAC are a) support of prop rezzing and b) all avatars being able to adjust their positions, not only the owner.
The advantages of SFposer over MLP include but aren't limited to a) way easier setup and customisation, also due to fewer notecards, b) only one script instead of loads of them, therefore much much less load on the grid server, c) no need to start up the scripts first and waiting for one or multiple poseballs to rez before sitting down, d) more flexible prop handling and, again, e) all avatars being able to adjust their positions.
SFposer even has advantages over AVsitter. For example, AVsitter needs a minimum of one basic script plus two per avatar plus extra scripts for extra features. SFposer covers everything with one script, even if you were to build a dance floor for 99 individually adjustable avatars. This also means that SFposer comes with NPC support out-of-the-box; in the case of AVsitter, you'll have to hunt down rare NPC-equipped furniture to obtain that extra script. Finally, SFposer doesn't make you fumble around with coordinates in notecards. Avatar positions are as easy to adjust as with PMAC.
I guess #OSSL does have some useful extra features that #LSL doesn't offer.

This may seem like coincidence, but still.
The #Hypergrid is experiencing a surge of new freebie sims. Most of them are basically the same as always, only upgraded. This means that everything they offer is illegal, stolen from #SecondLife. If something legal pops up somewhere, it's usually "by-catch" from raiding older freebie sims, mostly outdated versions of Ruth 2.0 (RC#2, RC#2 or even the test release), and the sim owners don't even know what it is that they slap against their walls. "Upgrade" means that, next to Maitreya Lara Athena and Slink Physique Hourglass Decadence-HG, the more recent and not renamed Legacy and eBody Reborn are being offered, along with outfits for them.
Interestingly, however, sims that are dedicated to legal freebies seem to be on the rise. In #Groovyverse, Doctor Dave is building a sim named San Juan. @Juno Rowland has met him already; I shall go meet him, too. Many of the shop buildings on this sim are filled with legal clothes for #Ruth2 to wear, and Dave said he has still got lots of clothes collected from a grid he couldn't remember the name of that he hasn't put into stores yet. Next to Groovyverse itself whose founder @Hyacinth Jean Landry not only forked her own body LuvMyBod off Ruth 2.0 RC#2, but also made mostly "body offset" mesh clothes for both Ruth 2.0 RC#2 and LuveMyBod, the only grid to offer original, full-perm Ruth 2.0 clothes in larger quantities is #DorenasWorld.
And just recently, Froot Loops started working on a new sim on #KinkyHavenGrid named HandMade. This sim shall only offer legal creations made in and for #OpenSim, full stop. In fact, instead of dividing the content into themes, it's the creators who get their own "stores" dedicated to them. After all, Froot Loops only wants to offer content which she can trace back to its origins. I hope she'll leave lots of space for more. For once Dorena's World is back online, Juno and I will have lots of content to bring her.
Speaking of which, once Jeanne Lefavre is done rebuilding the #Caribou sims in #OSgrid, I may become a shopkeep there. Chances are good she'll give me one of the stores to fill. If I get one in the building I've already laid eyes on, I'll use the ground floor as a #RuthAndRoth body shop like the one I already have in Dorena's World, i.e. part museum, but with more explanation and guidance on the walls. That way, Caribou will have the Ruth2 and #Roth2 product lines offered by someone who actually knows them.
Even though I'm likely to have enough space for them, I'm not sure if I will also offer @Sean Heavy ✅🤙🏻☯🏳️🌈's #RuthToo and #RothToo boxes. Sean is a pretty good shopkeep already with various shops on at least two grids (speaking of which, the two OSgrid outlets still lack the layer underwear boxes). Besides, not all older boxes seem to be full-perm, and I'm not sure if that's by mistake or intentional.
Upstairs, although there's a teleporter making up for a lack of actual stairs, I want to revive Deva Moda in a place that's easier to reach.
