On 25 October, the #EpiscopalChurch remembers the #FiberArtist #Dorcas so today I am reflecting on a passage from Acts 9:36-42
For me, as someone who knits & crochets, Dorcas is a role model. Not because Peter raised her from the dead, but because of who and how she was in life both before and after death. Scripture tells us in verse 36 “Now in Joppa there was a disciple whose name was Tabitha, which in Greek is Dorcas. She was devoted to good works and acts of charity.” And in verse 39b “All the widows stood beside him, weeping and showing tunics and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was with them.” I make clothing, well, mostly hats, & I struggle to let them go. I have been told, repeatedly, that making & giving away is a waste of time & money to the point that I act that way. Dorcas stands in silent rebuke of that attitude. I have been blessed with a talent/passion (& wonderful materials). I am called to share both more freely than I do.
