a few days ago a #dutch judge ruled #doorbell #cameras illegal if pointed at #public space. since then someone is paying a lot of #bots & #trolls in nl media to turn this into a "#privacy is going 2 far and impedes our #security". morons. it's not about the cameras themselves, but only about them pointed at public spaces. no one talks about how these doorbells are not owned by they houseowners but by #oligarchs and hostile #governments, who have city-wide networks now for tracking dissidents.

Anyone have a wired #smart #doorbell that they like?
A friend gave me his old Arlo kit and I installed the doorbell which is working, but it's practically useless without the subscription. Notifications and a live view is all it does.
I would like local recording and I'd rather not have to buy additional gear to use it (so no Unifi no matter how awesome you think it is). HomeKit secure video is a plus, but not necessarily required. Oh and it needs to work with my existing mechanical chime.

The wireless doorbell is pretty clever: Instead of using a battery and finding out it's empty because you missed a delivery, it has no battery at all. Instead, it generates enough power to squirt a radio message to the receiver from the force of the finger pushing the button to ring the bell. Clever.
