@ronsboy67 I enjoyed it too. The best romance in a while.
The only problem imho is that it's cruelly short with many scenes that could have been added to provide some humour or develop secondary characters better.
For instance Doona's fan has no purpose at all. Her mother has exactly one scene. Idem for Won-Jun's family. A pity.

25/21 has been on my radar for quite a while. A drama for ajummas probably works for me although 50 episodes is not my current thing. I really enjoyed #Doona! and #MyDemon!
I REALLY like the versions of romance in #Moving and #OurBlues, both of which I'm currently watching. Folks slowly getting to know each other, often in the workplace and gradually building trust and intimacy. Facing problems together and resolving them. And lots of other stuff going on. Romance isn't central -
@jcurries Haha, sounds like fun!! I really like #Doona! and #MyDemon (devastated that it's ending tomorrow)! That Moon show not so much. Waiting for more of #GyeongSeongCreature to load before taking it on, as well as the newest #LeeDongWook show.
Currently returned to #OurBlues after an extended break and it's looking great. Also watching $Moving, which is really excellent but way too violent for my liking! #kdrama -
CW: re: Doona Ending
In the last opening stills you see him in the same jacket he wore in the dept store - crossing the tracks to go meet her (and it looks like the signs are in Japanese) - and when he meets her you see the faintest beginning of a smile on his face.
As well, one opening has them at the beach with all their housemates - telling me that they all remained friends & did things together later.
At least this is how I *want* to read it.

A pity that I haven't watched it before the #EndOfTheYearDramaChallenge because it's by far the best romance of 2023 and even previous years.
The only problem is the unsatisfactory end. It's also cruelly short with many scenes that could have been added to provide some humour or develop secondary characters better.

@EllenInEdmonton @ronsboy67 @jodmentum @jcurries I finished #Doona episode 6 and it's likely among the top best romances I've seen in a #kdrama. I absolutely love the chemistry between the two leads.
#Imitation low budget didn't really bothered me, imho the plot was too good to notice other things. However I was a bit disappointed by the romance and those ridiculous kisses.

Hope you're enjoying #Doona. I thought it was pretty great, a good contrast to #kdrama where someone is desperate to get together with someone rich & famous. Like #Imitation, which I just finished, it highlights the way that idols are exploited. Unlike many k-dramas I've seen, Imitation was clearly NOT big-budget, to the point where is distracted from my watch. Still quite interesting, though. -
@ronsboy67 @EllenInEdmonton @jodmentum @jcurries Currently watching #Doona and there's no gigantic poster in her house.
#Imitation doesn't have gigantic pictures of the bands either however it may be due to the fact that they live all together in dormitory apartments. -
@s1m0n4
That sounds good although I'm trying to take a brief break from romance! I really liked #Doona! and thought that also gave a good idea of how tightly manage #kpop artists are. Interesting that #BaeSuzy broke away from that IRL although I don't know if actors have much more freedom than singers! -
@PandaLeaf @whoosh
Haha, it's very bingeable but eventually, sleep happens! It's good to follow Kenji on Instagram or Discord because he offers cultural insights to this show.

Doona!
(2023 - Netflix, 9 0:50 eps)So pleasantly surprised. While a few tears were shed, the drama was surprisingly uplifting. The main character goes through a lot of introspection which is difficult to show visually, but it succeeds. The scenes feel intimate & the writing is sweet yet sharp - at times her retorts betray her feelings & surprise the characters & audience alike.
The ML expresses his feelings very well - he is involved in a love triangle, but handles it beautifully. The side characters are so interesting - I wish the drama had been longer & we had gotten even more of their stories.
Fortunately, someone had warned me ahead of time to not skip the intros. The opening scenes contain clues to what eventually happens & are a stroke of genius & perfection. The only thing I disliked about this drama was the smoking. Wouldn't smoking damage her voice?

Doona! ★★★★★★★☆☆☆
While Suzy's acting was great as always, unfortunately, this did not help her career. I don't want to say that the story was bad because I haven't read the original material this live-action adaptation was based from. I think the problem was the execution of the live-action adaptation. It was everywhere and nowhere.
They could have had focused more in building the main character instead of showing the other relationship of the other characters, then what Doo Na's going through would be more impactful instead of lacking. You know, it's there, the audience understands what she is going through, but there is no emotional attachment to it.
The show, “Castaway Diva”, with a similar celebrity whose career ended, actually have a better introduction and background build up. Both characters want to die. Both characters were pushed to their limits. Both characters made mistakes. But there is no emotional attachment with Doo Na and there is with the other character with a parallel story. It's one thing to “know” and it is totally another to “feel”.
Watching Doo Na was like having a discussion, from a logical and objective perspective, of a celebrity's life in a classroom. They should have chosen a real-life story and created a documentary, which would be perfect for this kind of execution or production.
I actually stopped watching at episode 06. It took a few weeks before I was able to force myself to watch the last three episodes, and that's coming from a big fan of Suzy.

#kdrama Just binged #Doona and #DescendantsOfTheSun 2 extremely well-done shows. Doona was very gritty, emotionally. Astonishing cinematography, gorgeous sets, and fabulous OST. Descendants of the Sun stretched credibility with all of the leads' near-death experiences but was an excellent military/medical/action/romance drama! Lots of lovely scenery and beautiful stories for so many of the supporting characters.
