Valoración global: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Otro gran libro de Don Winslow, como viene siendo habitual. Le he puesto cuatro plumas en la prosa por la espontaneidad de sus diálogos, que son sin duda el mayor activo de este autor, quien parece sacarlos de su mente sin apenas esfuerzo.
Aunque el argumento troncal no versa realmente sobre racismo tiene también un acierto sorprendente en su predicción de protestas antiracistas generalizadas. El libro, publicado en 2017, narra con bastante exactitud altercados similares a los que se produjeron tres años después, en 2020, tras el fallecimiento de George Floyd bajo custodia policial.
También hace un análisis exhaustivo y realista de la diatriba entre lo moral, lo correcto y lo legal, en el día a día de las fuerzas de seguridad.

Last night, I just *had to* finish the third NEAL CAREY novel by Don Winslow. It was too good not to read the last 30 or 40 pages. The downside: When I finished, it was 10:30 pm (my alarm goes off at 3:01 am, then 3:05, 3:08, 3:11…). What a dense idiot. The only reason the cartels and the incredible suffering and violence that they inflict on the Mexican people is the USAs insatiable appetite for drugs. It is an insanely profitable business for the cartels keeping North American nostrils packed full of cocaine etc.
The only way to deprive the cartels of business is to de-criminalise drugs and put the supply under government control. The drugs would be imported and distributed via government outlets who would also provide medical support and counselling to addicts who would probably be keen to cut back on or eliminate their dependency. Everyone wants to live a happy life.
If you want a good background on just how evil the cartel problem is in Mexico read Don Winslow’s Border Trilogy. Based on reality the books are horribly powerful.
Mind you MTG would not read them; there’s lots of big words and long paragraphs ’n stuff.
