Today we rode on the new not-yet-really-open East Don Trail, which is expected to be complete in September. It starts at the point where the Taylor Creek Trail splits off from the South Don Trail, following the train tracks north, past the golf course and emerging from the valley right at the Bermondsy Transfer Station, about 3.5km. This will eventually connect downtown to the Meadowlands trail that runs through the hydro fields right out to Scarborough.
It was a fun little ride. There is one place you have to carry your bike over train tracks because the tunnel is not yet built, and one place where you have to cross the river on a temporary bridge because the new one is not quite complete. All the other bridges are done, including a switchback structure to cross the train tracks by the golf course. The south end of the trail is not yet paved, so there are a few muddy puddle spots.

The Don River hasn't really changed in the last 93 since this photo was taken on Dec 30th, 1931, but we've controlled the banks, and mud. The Bayview Extension runs across the top of the photo, and Pottery Road runs across the river to our right. wholemap.com/Dec30 #OTD #Toronto #TorontoPhoto #DonValley #Brickworks #BWPhotography #HistoricPhoto
