  1. "Not that commercial. I think it used to drive the record companies crazy, and I think that's why I never really fit in, in the music industry."

Intriguing! Because as a teenager I perceived McGlashan's band The Muttonbirds as quintessentially commercial pop music. Right up there with Crowded House, some of whom also came from an avantgarde background (Split Enz), and who also had some quirky songs (Chocolate Cake).

  2. Political snowflake upset by Maori symbols

At yesterday's music awards, Stan Walker brought performers on stage holding te Tiriti flags and banners. In the audience, ignorant National Minister and full-time racist Chris Bishop shouted "Performative acclaim. What a load of crap" and started ranting.

Music legend Don McGlashan then confronted Bishop and said 'ah shut up you dickhead'.

    That's worth printing on a t-shirt.

  3. Lucky Stars, Don McGlashan. No-one has such a strong sense of place, coupled with delicious lyrics and tuneful tunes than Don McGlashan.

"Hеnderson Park is still in the dark and I stop to put gas in the car
Suddеnly the street lights all go out
And the dawn comes creeping up the harbour mouth
And I thank my lucky stars"

  4. Don McGlashan brackets our covid experience so far.

I last saw him at the Newtown fair, it was a sunny day in March 2019, the crowd was cautious and distant.

Last night, two weeks after a bout of covid interrupted his tour, he played at Vogelmorn.

Great concert, but by the early end the crowd really wanted to offer him a warm cup of lemon and ginger tea
