Hancock's sophomore album as a leader, recorded by Rudy Van Gelder in Englewood Cliffs NJ. Hancock joined by Donald Byrd (trumpet), Gracham Moncur III (trombone), Hank Mobley (tenor sax), Grant Green (guitar), Chuck Isreals (bass), and Anthony Williams (drums). Hank Mobley Sextet - Hank

A few years after his 1955 Blue Note debut, and after his "Messages", Mobley (tenor) is joined by Donald Byrd (trumpet), John Jenkins (Alto), Bobby Timmons (piano), Wilbur Ware (bass), and Philly Joe Jones (drums).

Some pretty classic hard-boppin' going on, led by ex-Jazz Messenger Mobley (& joined by Byrd). Nice new mono remaster.

Duke Pearson - Wahoo!

Recorded right around this time in 1964. I didn't know Pearson was Blue Note's A&R man, just that he appeared on (or arranged) lots of other Blue Note LPs.

Anyway, this is accessible and exuberant, and features Donald Byrd (trumpet) and Joe Henderson (tenor), some flute work by James Spaulding (alto, too), Bob Crenshaw (bass) and Mickey Roker (drums).
