Conflicts in natural selection constrain #adaptation to climate change in Arabidopsis thaliana https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.10.16.562583v1
Likewise, was or is #domestication constrained by #tradeoffs/conflicts resulting from human #selection? #PLB143 #Domesticationsyndrome
Our new paper, the 2nd from my PhD, was published in Proceedings B. We dispute the ‘selection for tameness’ and neural crest cell explanations for #domesticationsyndrome. And argue, instead, that shared reproductive regime disruption can explain shared trait changes in different domesticated species. https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rspb.2022.2464
Also, published a conversation piece that gives a more approachable, though condensed, summary of our Proceedings B article. It’s been a big day in the life of this #PhD #domesticationsyndrome #selfdomestication #humanselfdomestication https://theconversation.com/why-do-animals-living-with-humans-evolve-such-similar-features-a-new-theory-could-explain-domestication-syndrome-201765
Due to the existing diverse and eclectic literature linked to #domestication and #domesticationsyndrome, our work has implications for wild #selfdomestication #humanevolution by #humanselfdomestication and #islandeffect.
Our new Proceedings B paper on #domesticationsyndrome is out. We argue similar selective changes occurring under #domestication should often lead to similar trait changes in different domestic animals. https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rspb.2022.2464
