A very welcome musical discovery for me this month—yes, I’m behind a very ouroboric (ouroborosian?) curve here—is the music of Kazakh musician Mamer (马木尔). Currently devouring everything I can find by him. Almost two decades of material, from the minimalist to the very intense and noise-drenched to enjoy!

Nogai is a Mongolian or maybe Turkic Khan. Sometimes Nogais are called Tatars. But the word Tatar means very different things in among different people, say Turks, Russians, and Chinese. To the Turkish, Tatars are people in the region who do not speak Turkish.

In any case, #Dombra (also the name of an instrument popular in Turkey, Xinjiang, Mongolia, Near East, and Russia) is a song written by a Nogai musician, Arslanbek Sultanbekov, who lives in Kazakhstan. #music
