  1. I'm moving a few domains away from Namescheap. Is Porkbun good? Or maybe a different registrar?
Looks like Porkbun is about $15 cheaper per domain than Namescheap.

  2. It seems Gandi was purchased in 2023, which explains their change in business practice. It's a real shame since I've used Gandi since the late 90s!

Does anyone else have a recommendation for a domain registrar with a good reputation, a simple and friendly privacy policy, good customer service, and an API?

  3. Does anyone have domain registrar recommendations?

  4. I think it's funny that #DomainRegistrars think we'll believe that email suddenly takes hours to work when you ask for an auth code to #transfer a #domain from them to another registrar.

It's the same when some pages basically punish you when you don't allow them to set cookies to track you, then suddenly the website is "working on settings" due to you not just clicking "Allow all"..

    I hate the corporate Internet.

  5. Incidentally, I find #Squarespace pretty unusable and will need to think about migrating business domains to another registrar. I have been using #ionos for my private registration for around 12 years now and I suffices for my needs but not sure how it holds up commercially. Does anyone have any experience? #domains #googledomains #domainregistrars

  6. I have to find a new domain registrar, and probably a new CDN or web host, as well, and I'm looking for ones that are based in countries which have good privacy laws and/or are outside the US, which I just don't trust from a legal standpoint anymore.

    Any ideas?

  7. So with Google Domains being hawked to Squarespace, and me trying to extricate myself from giant corporations, who's got recommendations for a domain registrar that's not shady and actively making the world a worse place?

Right now I'm looking at Dynadot and Infomaniak but I don't really know anything about them.

  8. CW: expired, domain registrars recommendations request, long

EDIT: this post is no longer relevent. i've already moved to another domain registrar, and i am not seeking anymore recommendations.

looking for domain registrar to move to (per exquisite.social/@h3artbl33d/1). any recommendations?

    exclusions:
    - gandi.net (what i'm using right now)
    - namecheap (i don't think i'm going back there, i've already yeeted my account)
    - godaddy (fuck that)
    - extremely closely related to or connected to big tech (e.g. google (yes they provide domain names))

    required criteria (non-negotiable):
    - provides DNS nameservers (that's not garbage)
    - dynamic DNS for specific (sub)domains OR access to control DNS records programmatically, if NSs are provided
    - wildcard DNS records (aka under any subdomain record whatever)
    - WHOIS privacy
    - non-disruptive transfer out of it (i.e. better not be hell tryna get your domain out of that now crappy domain registrar)
    - DNSSEC support (unless not applicable, somehow)

quality criteria (not required but exists for quality control purposes):
    - you have used it and have an experience to talk about (minimize conflict of interest or else)
    - EU based (Switzerland and UK may be included)
    - not completely unreasonable pricing on renews (or transfers (or new domains))

    nicer to haves:
    - one email address (and/or control over DNS records for email)
    - transparency about your DNS records (so if you use their email service, you can see the required DNS records included)
    - fine grained control-access over DNS for specific tokens whatever
    - ICANN accredited
    - at a very minimum minimum of 900 seconds TTL for DNS records

  9. @AgreeableLandscape I also recommend using Easy Whois at domainhelp.com. I used to work there before I moved out west and they don’t do any of the domain tasting like you are (justifiably) concerned about. #domainregistrars #whois
