Spinsters' Rock, near Chagford, Dartmoor, Devon

Best surviving example of a dolmen or cromlech in Devon, built around 4500-5500 BP. After the stones collapsed in 1862, they were re-erected the same year.

Name refers to the legend that three spinsters (in the occupational sense) were waiting for their woollen cloth to be collected one morning before breakfast and whiled away the time creating this arrangement of stones.

Got up and went out to the dolmen this morning- there was light but no direct sun. Wonderful conversation and a group doing yoga shared their rosemary sprigs. As I was leaving a rainbow appeared over the dolmen as I looked back. My husband was home from work when I got back. I made this photograph of an #alignment of #Megalithic monuments, a stone circle, a passage tomb, and the grave of Queen #Maeve atop #Knocknarea seen from #Carrowmore, #Sligo, IE, on April 25, 2007 using old technology, a Canon PowerShot A710 IS. Today, I used #gimp 3 to convert it to black and white using different settings than last time I posted it.

In der Richtung, in der wir so ungefähr weiter wollen, liegt #TornbyDyssen auf dem Weg. #Dysserne, auf Deutsch #Dolmen, sind die ältesten großen #Steingräber in #Dänemark, die von den Bauern der frühen Steinzeit in der Zeit zwischen 3600 und 3200 v. Chr. erbaut wurden.
Auf dem Weg vom Parkplatz zum Dolmen fanden wir jede Menge ganz tolle #Schnecken, aus den ganzen Schneckenfotos muss ich mal ein Poster basteln.
Von dort sind wir dann weiter Richtung #Hirtshals und kamen unterwegs an #RubjergKnude und #RubjergKnudeFyr vorbei. Wo kann man schon eine 100 Meter hohe Wanderdüne (https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubjerg_Knude) und einen Leuchtturm, der 2019 auf Schienen gestzt und 70 Meter Landeinwärts versetzt wurde damit er nicht ins Meer stürzt (https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubjerg_Knude_Fyr), zusammen besichtigen? Also sind wir auf den Parkplatz abgebogen und haben einen kleinen Spaziergang zu und auf Düne und Leuchtturm gemacht.
Auf dem Rückweg zum #wohnmobil sind wir dann so richtig nass geworden aber das macht nichts. Der Abstecher hat sich auf jeden Fall gelohnt.
Übernachten wollen wir in #Hanstholm aber an allen Parkplätzen ist wohl inzwischen Übernachten verboten. Da haben es wohl einige Wohnmobilisten übertrieben…
Wir suchten uns einen Platz bei #Pintrip. Der war dann leider schon voll und so sind wir weiter zum nächsten. Hier schauen wir auf Schaafe, Hirsche, Gänse und Enten, können für je 25DKK Toilette und Dusche und für den gleichen Preis Waschmaschine und Trockner nutzen. Waschen wäre noch nicht nötig, aber wenn man die Gelegenheit dazu hat, muss man später nicht auf einen Campingplatz.
2h Waschmaschine, 2h Trockner - wird mindestens 23:30 bis das durch ist.
