@Axomamma @pattykimura Reliable schedule is the best advice. Dogs crave predictability, it soothes their worries. *Part* of what the dog misses from its previous home is the comfort of knowing who will be there and what is in the environment. Try to be as clockwork as possible, including with outside time, so the dog can build new expectations.
Note that separation anxiety from mom is different from separation anxiety from you. Some of the replies address one but not the other. Let me know if you need more specific advice (I’m a trainer who specializes in anxiety). #DogTraining

Struggling right now. Working with a “client” whose dog has a recent bite history. The client is my sister and my niece. They each want to take a different path. I’m stuck in the middle trying to validate both’s feelings while trying to guide them toward the best decision. This is the most I’ve cried since becoming a dog trainer. #DogTraining

Preparing a lesson for a client I worked with when their dog was a puppy. The pup has now reached adolescence and is over-the-top reactive to everything, especially at night. Teenager brain! The part of their brain that controls emotions is developing faster than the part that tells them everything is fine. The good news is it’s temporary, but we will have to work on extra management, redirection and counter-conditioning. #DogTraining

This is a miracle. Cody has become quite reactive after being attacked by a pitbull last year. We enrolled him in scent training classes, and he's sitting next to five other dogs. Anecdotally, as a trainer, I do get more doodles with behavior issues than other breeds. But I don’t believe the problem is the cross breeding or the poodle part—it’s that buyers want doodles and breeders are cranking them out as fast as they can. Too many breeders are focusing on looks instead of temperament, and fast turnaround of litters—so they’re not selling mentally healthy puppies. And because the doodles are so popular, they are over-represented in the gen pop. When I was young, it was golden retrievers, and they had the highest numbers of reported bites.
