It's my pup's birthday, which makes him about 19. In a year I'll no longer get to tease him for being a teenager.
His name is Elvis. I've had him since 2016---I inherited him from my grandmother. He took a bit of adjusting to his new "my humans have jobs outside the house" situation, instead of "I'm a lap dog to a retiree". He's still a separation anxiety pup--we worked on it, he got better for a bit, but now he's got doggie dementia and the anxiety is back.
He's a generally happy pup. He has his old man problems (arthritis, a limp, and kidney disease) but nothing that seems to bother him much. He sleeps on a heated pad more, forgets to eat until I put a bit of food in his mouth to remind him that food exists.
He tries to use the pee pad, but his aim is very bad. Having your front paws on the pee pad does not mean your butt is in the right place. At least the mess is in the bathroom. Our bath mats are easily washable for a reason, and we own several identical ones. They pull double-duty as placemats.
He's part of the dog aging project, and we occasionally run experiments on him to examine his thought process. He's really good at "go immediately to the box you saw a treat fall into". He's really bad at "wait 20 seconds, then go to the box you saw a treat fall into".
Anyways, old dogs are great.
