The settlements of the lagoons — John the Deacon

This chapter from Istoria Veneticorum by John the Deacon is the earliest Venetian description of the main settlements in the lagoons from Grado to Cavarzere.

While it purports to describe the situations just after the Lombard invasion and conquest of Venetia, it is more likely that John the Deacon described the lagoons as they were at his time, around the year 1000.

Ich erhebe ab sofort einen Zuschlag von 100%, wenn ich mit den #Hostern oder #Providern #Domainfactory, #Hosteurope, #Alfahosting, #GoDaddy sowie #Dogado arbeiten soll.

Sowohl deren Hostingkonfigurationen als auch deren Nameserver-Konfigurationsmöglichkeiten sind damaged beyond repair. Ein Support findet nicht mehr statt, nachdem sie alles an Coworking und Callcenter ausgelagert haben.

Das ist alles vollkommen kaputt.

Hab hier gerade wieder Puls wegen eines Hosters, der nur Arbeit simuliert.

Die Trümmerbude #Dogado hat einen wundervollen Knopf im Backend, mit dem man eine WebApplication-Firewall an- und abschalten kann. Sagt der Knopf wenigstens.

13 days ago, my webspace provider #dogado gave me an ultimatum to update everything to #PHP 8.1 at least or to pay for support of old versions. Migration of my ancient code to mysqli was pretty straigh forward (once I had figured out, how to keep file encoding to latin1 in #vscode), @dokuwiki was of course ready as always, the rest so far was mainly small stuff. The only big bummer: @ownclouders never implemented support for PHP 8, so I will probably move to @nextcloud later today. Wish me luck.

The 1400s and 1500s were centuries of enormous change for Venice, and for the rest of the world. The changing geography moved Venice from a central position in European trade to the margins.

I struggled for years with several web services hosted at "my web space" having problems with me being too greedy to buy certificates for them. Turns out I would have just needed to write my hoster and I would have had a certificate. Thank you, #dogado

Seit der Übernahme durch #Dogado entwickelt sich #alfahosting auch mehr und mehr zur Schrottbude.

Die Kollegen von #dogado haben eine ganz gute Anleitung https://www.dogado.de/vps/vserver-anwendungsfaelle/soziales-netzwerk-mastodon-hosten, die dann nur noch um die versionsspezifischen Befehle für das Update auf v4.0.2 ergänzt werden muss.
