  3. @plastacs I don't have any particular ideas about working with plastic at the moment, but since I might see you at #DoESLiverpool I thought I might follow you.

  4. Thanks to @john there's now a #Mastodon instance for the DoES Liverpool community.

Which also means there's now @DoESLiverpool - an account reporting goings on in the #makerspace. That also means I can start using that rather than the #DoESLiverpool hashtag that I've been using for anything DoES-related so far 😀

  5. @amcewen @Sparklyjed Hi, Adrian’s obviously your best person for this, but in the meantime just in case you haven’t found the #DOESLiverpool website: doesliverpool.com/, and #WeekNotes is great for getting a sense of what goes on doesliverpool.com/weeknotes/

  6. @bhaugen @MCQN_Ltd Ah, sorry, it's on our internal "somebody should" to-do list repo.

(See doesliverpool.com/slides/festi if you're curious about that. @MCQN_Ltd's version is private, we're not quite as everything-open as #DoESLiverpool I'm afraid 😀)

  7. @maria it is, isn't it? It should be used more, I think.

Often I'd reach for "gardening" instead - e.g. I spend time gardening the #DoESLiverpool culture - but stewarding has more of a protective element and, I guess, is just a more appropriate word to use 😀

  8. @annejohn Thanks. Do you mean as a definition of "commoning" or as possible examples #DoESLiverpool could learn from?

  9. @bhaugen I don't suppose you know of any better open source options than Odoo then?

I spent far too long failing to get to grips with Odoo a year or so back when looking for software to help us manage #DoESLiverpool (but that was more member-focused than supply chain).

It seems that in the electronics world such software is also called PLM (or some part of it is). I'm tending towards us rolling our own (and open-sourcing it).

That said, presumably standards and interop are more important?

  10. Always fun to spend a morning feeling round the back of the network closet for cables...

Still, all the networking gear at #DoESLiverpool is now PAT tested. (More importantly, the network seems to have come back up okay after I turned it all back on! 🤣)

  11. @cmoz @jackie_pease Hehe, I should've thought to see if there was already a copy in the #DoESLiverpool orbit.

It'll be a while before I'll get time to read it anyway, so am happy to wait for my copy. Tinker Tailor have shipped it out, and emailed to warn me about the postal strike too, so have had good service from them so far.

  12. @lloyddavis they're busy with the laser-cutter here in #DoESLiverpool at the minute, prepping for a Christmas market this afternoon

  13. @Floppy Hehe. I hope you get more results from that statement than I ever manage here in #DoESLiverpool 😄

Groupthink looks interesting (from a making it easier for staff to edit the @MCQN_Ltd #jekyll site). If I end up playing with that more then I'll have a poke at it...

  14. The #DoESLiverpool Boost Membership scheme, where we give folk a boost with six months of free access to the space is a year old! @[email protected] takes a look at how it's gone, and how we're carrying it forwards.

  15. @John @adamgreenfield That's pretty much what I'd have said.

My mate @Snoof has an Ender 3 I think as her home machine. We've got a couple of workhorse Ultimaker 2s (old now, expensive) and a Creality (good option for a bigger build area than an Ender or Prusa) at #DoESLiverpool.

  16. @biglesp The barcamp scene around then was *so* good for things like that. I can trace back the start of #DoESLiverpool to Barcamp Liverpool in 2008. I do wonder what, if anything, is filling that role now?

(And whenever I do that, it's another nudge towards getting round to organising #DoESCon... I need to find more hours in the day, or more willing co-organising victims^h collaborators)

  17. @m8nd1 Morning! Is this to work for #DoESLiverpool or more generally asking if any of the businesses in the space are interested?

For the former, emailing [email protected] would be best, for the latter posting to the Google Group.

Knowing how long it's for, and what sort of work is of interest would also be useful.

  18. Yesterday afternoon I did a quick bit of #lasercutting in #DoESLiverpool to make a frame to stabilise the megaphone when I strap it to my pannier rack.

Worked perfectly and survived our first ride with no problems. Sounds rather tinny though, but that's less of an issue when you're out and about.

  19. @arthrowl assuming you've already got a domain name (if not, you'd need add ~£10/year) there's no setup cost, just your first month's payment.

@MCQN_Ltd is on the bottom tier of masto.host, so $6/month. For a pricing comparison, mastodon.me.uk has just moved up to the Constellation level.

Seems there's a waitlist for new instances at the moment - mastodon.social/@mastohost/109

@jackie_pease and I were wondering about a #DoESLiverpool instance yesterday too...

  20. @Workshopshed @Maker_of_things @ianturton Nice. I've not tried gears yet, but the #DoESLiverpool Dyson has a 3D printed on/off button after that broke, and has had a number of 3D printed attachments for better nook-vacuuming.

@jackie_pease did 3D print a replacement gear for a gumball machine for the tattoo folk upstairs from DoES

  21. Still pondering on the ideas and conversations at the #DoESLiverpool
#FutureGazing session the other evening. Many thanks to Ross
    for organising, Kirsty
for facilitation assistance, and the Homebaked Anfield #cooperative
    for the pies 😍 #weeknotes

  22. Nice to see Winds of Change by Laura Pullig and Simon Armstrong, with production help from a bunch of #DoESLiverpool folk. I helped a tiny bit with the circuit design. Need to visit in the dark to see the LEDs working (powered by the windmills) #weeknotes #InTheSaddle

  23. New production staff cohort at Brainboxes Ltd? No, just a bunch of us from #DoESLiverpool on an excellent #DoESEpicTrip to have a look round Brainboxes #IoT production line here in Liverpool. Thanks for showing us round! #weeknotes

  24. CW: UK politics, fun

    [Sound on]

A quick #NodeRED flow to check the website hasborisjohnsongoneyet.com and then trigger a #MCQN_Ltd #AckersBell over #MQTT to alert the #DoESLiverpool office when the Prime Minister has resigned
