James Russel Miller, Pennsylvanian Presybterian pastor and publisher, on 2 Co 8. He says a grasping, covetous, miserly Christian is a misnomer, not the kind of follower that Christ is looking for. In the same passage he quotes a priest who says he never had anyone come to confession admitting to covetousness.

Would anyone have any admonition about covetousness today?

So #WiCyS announced they're hosting their 2024 event in Nashville, TN. They've sent a clear signal that equity and inclusion are only words. When push comes to shove and dollars are on the line, they'll choose the dollars over their own membership.

The cruel irony here is that I've been part of their Equity Advocacy Committee for the last few years. We've had to fight tooth and nail to get our voices heard within the org. This latest decision, clearly made without consideration or care for how it would impact the inclusivity of their event, signals again that Equity and Inclusion are words that are only being selectively applied.

I'm sad, I'm hurt, I'm disappointed, and I'm disgusted. Of all the states in the US they could have chosen for this event, they would have had to try hard to find a worse choice than the one state more than any other (even Texas) that has launched an all out assault on womens', LGBTQ in general, and transgender human and civil rights.

I'm hopeful they correct course. More than that, I'm hopeful they open a discussion so they can learn and grow and do better. I've reached out to their founder, their executive director, and another member of their leadership to try to make this happen. We'll see how that goes, but I'm not optimistic.
