The GM tonight is running the game on Roll20, which is pushing out a modernized UX/UI redesign for better managing layers about 5-7 years too late. So many game evenings made needlessly stressful by Roll20 fog of war layers.
Roll20 is the default only because it was good enough and free for most things. DnDOne must have them in a panic. I have no plans to ever play DnDOne, but if it pushes Roll20 into building something functional on a tablet, at least it did something good for the hobby. #roll20 #vtt #dndone -
WOTC just waved the white flag.
OGL 1.0a is staying and the SRD for 5e is now Creative Commons!
I never expected that result.
Still, I am very curious for what's next, and how they try to come for our cash.
I don't use the OGL for my system neutral PDFs on DriveThruRPG, so it didn't affect me.

@the_pulp_hero Scherzhaft wird #OneDnD ja schon in #DnDone umgekehrt. Auch dem Film wird's nicht gut bekommen, natürlich machen Boykottaufrufe die Runde, aber diesmal scheinen sie ernst genommen zu werden

I'm sure you've all heard the buzz about Hasbro and WOTC's OGL shenanigans. We're here to say we support open licensing and the community, and all our games will have that. What they're trying to do is bullying at BEST, and downright criminal at worst. It especially impacts indie 3PP who make their brands and livelihoods based on this most popular of games.

What NY contract lawyer Alan L. Bushlow Esq says on Roll for Combat's video confirms what I said before - including the problems down the line for translation publishers once the company they license from accepts the toxic and contagious #OGL 1.1 for #DnDone, which then poisons the waters for any #openDnD idea that company might like. Which might still affect the company I work for, if Paizo for #Pathfinder or @KoboldPress with Wolfgang Baur enters into a 1.1 deal. Don't!

With all the stuff around #dndone and the new #ogl I think I'll likely be running anything but #wotc D&D going forward. Making it difficult for people to use #foundryvtt and other #vtt products to force people into their walled garden goes against my principles. I didn't care much for the system anyway. Once I finish the in person Dragon Heist game I'm running I'll start investing in physical copies of #pf2e. I already have legit PDFs but prefer dead tree copies for in person play.

Most of our new players were spawned from Stranger Things. And a lot of times, these players did not come from wargaming or video game backgrounds. This made it very hard to teach.
I had gotten into an argument with someone in a discord server over how difficult D&D actually is to teach. I have met several "fan boys" who will defend D&D5e as "easy" or "simple". To a gamer, it might be. But for an outsider, it is not.
