Continuous upgrades enabled substantial progress in the development of realistic #climate models. Today, scientists from #MPIM &other institutes are using the Levante supercomputer, which has 70 million times the computing power of the Cyber-205! #MPIM50 #ThrowbackThursday #tbt

Today international climate protection fellows of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation from South America, Asia and Africa visited our institute #MPIM and the German Climate Computing Center #DKRZ to gain an overview of selected aspects of climate research. 🌍☁️ 🌊 ☀️

Today, the participants were able to get a close look at Levante, the Supercomputer at #DKRZ.

Levante has been operating since March 2022, increasing the computing capacity at DKRZ four-fold. Its main memory exceeds 800 Terabytes (about 100.000 Laptops) and the computing power 14 PetaFLOPS, which are mainly used for modelling purposes.

#PASC24 Mini-Symposium acceptance notifications have been sent out. Both of my proposals have been accepted and I'm looking forward to a great conference in Zurich.

The first session is co-hosted with Claudia Frauen from #DKRZ and is entitled "Towards km-scale weather and climate simulations on (pre-)exascale HPC systems". It will feature presentations on ICON (recently open-sourced) and @ECMWF's IFS, including details from the model deployment for #DestinE, and the EarthWorks project.

Today we introduce you to René Redler. René is a scientific programmer and an important part of our institute #MPIM.
