I guess it's impossible to remove Google from Android phones. I have disabled Google, but cannot delete it. And it re-enabled itself later. The only way out of this, I'm thinking, is an alternative operating system for the phone.

The partnership between Braxman and iodeOS is concerning for sure. It does not make the project appear trustworthy at all.

But I feel you are mixing iodeOS and /e/OS which is not good practice.

Lets stay with /e/OS for a while as it is more obviously a degrated LineageOS.

Breaking source code licenses is really bad and fits into the image of /e/OS. But again, the stretch to iodeOS is not founded.

I know of DivestOS and it was a very good project. Basing off LineageOSes tooling is not bad, being their downstream is more problematic.

I thought of installing #DivestOS on my old Pixel, but even then GrapheneOS was newer.

Afaik iodeOS has improvements over LineageOS.

There was #DivestOS made for devices that were no longer "in support" but apparently that project got canceled at the start of the year.

My brain is just going crazy that the #USGov is gonna come after me by subpoenaing my data from google, even though I have long since turned all privacy-sharing settings off on my phone.

These older devices may not be the most powerful, but they still can be useful, especially for those without access to better phones.

Now that #DivestOS is gone and #Carrion is dead, what are other #android users using to block spam calls? Strong preference for FOSS.

Holy crap. #DivestOS shutdown?! I wasn't using them directly because I had #grapheneos available on my pixel, but I used #Mull and Carion. What are the alternatives now? I see IronFox in Accrescent. Is it comparable?

We're in 2025 and the only halfway acceptable OS for a popular device designed to handle private data is / was a single-maintainer project.

@pipes It is/was even relatively easy to flash an alternative #CustomRom because #FP2 is supported by OpenAndroidInstaller @openandroidinstaller.
But unfortunately #DivestOS has just been discontinued and now there is only official support for #eOS with an outdated Android version.

Random thought, but since #DivestOS has shut down, what happens to #Hypatia antivirus? Did it have other contributors outside of that project? Will they keep developing it? All the "donate" links on its GitHub go to the Divest page, but I'm not sure how independent Hypatia is or isn't. I use #CalyxOS and Hypatia is included or endorsed by them, so I'm sort of curious.

Moreover, as long as the fdorid folks do this on voluntary basis withe adequate warnings they are by better than many others. Thanks fdroid, keep rocking.

Thanks to the direction I've received from @Sunnysouth, now I see a patched #MullBrowser dating October 14. It is enough to open this through F-Droid and install Mull 131.0.3 (or later):

If anyone is getting a warning to remove #Mull on Android, it's coming from the outdated versions of Mull (128.0.3 or earlier) on official #FDroid repository, preceding the disclosure of the 0-day vulnerability. Uninstall that one and proceed to the link above. Set the repo as preferred right there and "Install" button will popup. Of course, as always, make sure to carefully develop a faith in audits or do one yourself.

In any case, this experience will do without pink glasses, unlike continuing with Mozilla's vision of the #Firefox. And, if you're more of a Chromium homie, #DivestOS repository has got you covered with #Mulch browser, so go check that out.

Pixel 3 bzw. 3a XL werden unterstützt von #LineageOS 21, #DivestOS 20, #eOS t und #CalyxOS 14. #OpenAndroidInstaller ist ebenfalls verfügbar
