Predawn on a color change day, & everyone was waiting to see what the new period's color would be. They waited in the fading starlight by bridges, crossroads, city gates--any place that flew flags for the period.
As the sun rose, so too did the new flags: Color Periwinkle! A rush of periwinkle-tinted water surged through the freshly weeded drainage #ditches on the sides of roads. Cheers went up, & everyone filled a cup or pail to take home in honor of the new period.
