  1. [SPIRou + Wapiti => habitable exoplanet] Thanks to the #SPIRou infrared spectrometer on the #CFHT and the implementation of Wapiti, a new method for correcting #disturbances related to the #atmosphere, astronomers have detected an #exoplanet in the habitable zone of an M-type star—11.4 light-years from Earth.

Next-generation instruments will make it possible to determine whether this planet is rocky or not, and whether liquid water is part of its composition.

  2. Nice analysis of #Canada's forests using large-scale and long-term #data:

"#Tree diversity increases decadal forest #soil carbon and nitrogen accrual" by Chen et al (2023)

Quote: "...#conserving and promoting functionally #diverse forests could promote soil carbon and #nitrogen storage, enhancing both #carbon sink capacity and soil nitrogen fertility."

This is increasingly important to consider we impose larger and more frequent #disturbances on #forest #ecosystems.
