I especially appreciate this point ~ that discontent is necessary as an indication that something needs attention. It’s the whole #symptoms are #messengers idea. If we just try to push #suffering away so we can be “normal” and functional, we might never understand the cause.

This is #dhamma territory for me. We need to build #distress #tolerance so we can turn toward pain ~ unless it is debilitating or causing harm of course ~ with wisdom and see the causes, not just the symptoms.

A good thread from @JankaWessman. It is heartening to hear a psychiatrist talk about #resilience building and the perils of #diagnosis and the importance of (my words, but on theme 👉🏼) allowing #distress to be distress without necessarily freaking out. Includes a good perspective from #evolutionary #psychology and on the narrow-mindedness of binaries.

Mindestens einmal im Jahr schreiben unsere Patenkinder an ihre Paten einen Brief, in dem sie ein wenig von sich selbst erzählen, wie es ihnen geht und welchen lebensverändernden Einfluß die Bildung hat, die sie dank ihrer Paten genießen können.
Lassen wir sie selbst zu Wort kommen:

„Ich möchte Ihnen meinen aufrichtigen Dank für Ihre großzügige Unterstützung aussprechen. Also, I had an epiphany. Therapy has inherent value even in shitty situations. At the very least, counselling can* grant you an example template of a (one-sided) healthy relationship.
It's unfair to have to wait or pay for it.
Regardless of what factors facilitate that experience, still, knowing what that COULD look like is constructive.

e.g. my therapist can't make my doctor stop being a shit, but knowing they believe me when I say it stresses me out is indispensable.
