I would propose a new name for the game: Nepotism Navy Simulator.
Because when you look at how your fleets and single ships act, you can only surmise that every single officer in the entire Navy got to their rank because of nepotism, not skill.
My advise would be to not even touch the game, because it's insidious: In the first hour or two, you're constantly thinking: This is going to be great!
And then the first pirates arrive.

- Fleet ordered to attack pirate base. Two frigates jump in ahead of the fleet, instead of together with it. Get pulverised due to lack of PD cover
- Fleet ordered to attack pirates in another system. Way too late. Still continue to the system long after pirates are gone. Station in their anchorage system gets raided.2/x

Why you shouldn't touch Distant Worlds 2 with a 10-foot pole. That there is one of my colonies. To the north of the planet is a 17 ship sector fleet, fully armed. South of the planet is a single pirate ship.
My fleet has been hanging there, trying to get at the pirate, for several minutes.
Note the messages about the colony having been raided on the right of the screenshot.
There's really not much more to say.

Distant Worlds 2: The game you will want to play if you ever wanted to know what a Navy promoting utter incompetents based on who their daddy is looks like.
Hey, the system I just left is getting hit again? Well, tough luck. I will first return to my home base and then - perhaps - return. What do I hear? The pirates are already done raiding the planet? Ah well, no use returning then.
I shudder at the thought of what a real war is going to look like.

Distant Worlds 2 would be one hell of a game. If the automation wasn't so incredibly bad that it feels like your entire admiralty is made up of bumbling fools.
I mean sure, deserting your post and the mining station you were charged with protecting - while it was being attacked - just because you were a bit light on fuel is a choice you can make.
It's also going to be the shortest court martial in naval history. -

We're playing a mostly automated run in Distant Worlds 2 where we let the in-game AI control most of the decisions pertaining managing the galactic empire. I will be managing research and ship design. There's also an expansion coming out for DW2 this week so this game isn't expected to run for too long. But hey, let's have some fun with this!

It's been a while so I thought I'd switch things up and play some Distant Worlds 2. But... I'm not really playing? I'm playing a fully automated game in all areas except for research and ship design. I'll get the in-game AI handle the rest.
So, this will be a chill stream. I'll also talk about what my plans are for the channel and my other projects I have in the pipeline. Come by and chat! Feel free to ask questions, too.

Today on Distant Worlds 2: Endgame, it's WAR! We've been building up our military and home defenses, and now we must go on the offensive!
We will take our battle to the north first and try to encircle our main rival first. It won't be easy since we will engage with multiple enemies, but we are prepared.
Let us fight!

Today on Distant Worlds 2: The Endgame, the time for war has arrived. If we stay asleep for much longer our light will be eclipsed. We must remain on top and conquer the galaxy!
The Ackdarian Technocracy is on the move. We're building our unstoppable Titan armies and our Battleships have no equal. Our pacifier fleet will prepare the future members of our sprawling empire for their ascension.

It's stream time! We're approaching the endgame as far as the research tree is concerned. I've been focused on civilian research which has helped me economically but it looks like the AI players are catching up to me in fleet strength.
I need to fix that.

I had to make dinner today and I also napped, so I wasn't able to stream this afternoon, but we're back with more galactic conquest shenanigans!

We've grown as much as we can in our own little corner of the galaxy, and the Boskarans are catching up to us. Clearly we need to be in more corners of the galaxy. We're gonna expand today!
Last night I finished upgrading all the ship designs, and after I finish retrofitting I will begin the invasion of our nearest neighbor.

It's Friday! Must be time for another vacation stream!
This morning I will be doing the extra boring work of redesigning my fleet and stations to perform more specialized work. My space stations don't really need big guns anymore and my destroyers can probably ditch the hangar bays.
We're also preparing for war as we continue filling up the colonies in our own space to expand our empire.

"But surely you have other games in your catalog, right?" Yes, but this one is the one I'm playing, and I intend to beat it. 😈
We survived two simultaneous wars on us without a single shot being fired. We're pausing new colonies for a bit while we catch our breath. We "acquired" 2 research labs, a resort, and a few mining stations from a neighbor who was in our territory. All in another day's work in Distant Worlds 2.

Continuing my unhealthy obsession with this darned 4X game. :D
We're at war with two empires, but I'm not too worried. If they send anything my way I'll just beat them back since my fleets have the power of SCIENCE behind them!
Seriously though: we will crush them as I seed my own territory with new colonies in preparation for my eventual conquest of the galaxy.

A Tuesday Sneaky Stream? What is this madness? Oh yeah, I'm on vacation, that's what.
Anyways, I'm going ot have another go at my Distant Worlds 2 run, but this time I'm disabling the XL mod. It's not that it's a bad mod (it's quite excellent, in fact), but it is an opinionated mod and I don't necessarily agree with all of the opinions.
I do have some mods enabled (repeatable race techs and a galaxy nod).
