  1. Melancthon Jacobus, Presbyterian minister, on the common property of Acts 4:32, which was strictly common use, not ownership. Generous, non-grasping dealing with the poor should be a matter of discipleship. A grasping Christian is a contradiction in terms.

Today, is a “grasping Christian” apt to be celebrated, given church leadership because of knowledge of money?

How can you share the uses of your items with others?

  2. John Flavel, English Puritan, comments on Matthew 25. He says he knows another famous preacher who says no one understands or believes Jesus’ commands to help, or we wouldn’t see so many poor Christians. (Many take “my brethren” literally).

Do we today take evidence of suffering as evidence of our sin, or the sinfulness of the sufferer?

What from Matthew 25 today can you do for a saint?

  3. William Paley, Anglican minister and apologist, talks on locally relevant preaching, based on Jesus having different messages for different people: hypocrisy, resurrection, sectarian hate, “comprehensive benevolence”, Jewish orthodoxy.

How many “preach locally” on all of these? Benevolence up there with resurrection??? Do you remain silent if you have a good ally on one of these but is in left field on your least favorite?
