@iquaanyin Okay, I'm from Long Island, so this absolutely caught my eye... but what I find incredibly dystopian is the position that because they TRIED Disney+... an online streaming service... YEARS ago... that they are magically covered by the same terms for binding arbitration.
If this court dismisses the suit on those grounds I will have to reconsider stepping foot anywhere near a Disney owned location.
As like should we all.

The SFWA #DisneyMustPay task force (Neil Gaiman, Tess Gerritsen, Lee Goldberg, Mary Robinette Kowal and Chuck Wendig) note that Disney continues to reprint and reissue works by these unpaid authors, all under the pretense that they are not owed a penny, nor the courtesy of an accounting or even notification that their work is reissued.

That's where SFWA came in: as an association, it had resources that Foster himself - elderly, sick with cancer, caring for a a sick wife - couldn't marshal. The org kicked off #DisneyMustPay, a shaming campaign that called on Disney to honor its obligations to the creative workers who made the company its billions.

After failing to make progress with private negotiations, they went loudly public, launching the #DisneyMustPay campaign. The good news is, the campaign was successful, and Foster has been paid.
The bad news is that the campaign flushed out *many* writers who are also having their wages stolen by Disney. The company is stalling them, too - refusing to search its records or volunteer info unless the authors can name the specific instances in which they've been robbed.

Reading this whole #DisneyMustPay issue regarding Alan Dean Foster, I was surprised to learn he did the novelization of the first Star Wars movie. I read that book a VERY long time ago, but thought George Lucas had written it. Turns out it was ghostwritten. However, he has written other Star Wars novels under his own name as well.

So Disney has decided they don't have to pay Alan Dean Foster (and who knows how many other authors?) royalties he's owed by contract for books he wrote. This can't be allowed to stand. It sets an awful precedent.
