@avilewis Any politician who truly cares about wellbeing of all citizens, not just the lives of privileged people, would spearhead much better, preventative public health policies. A sustainable workforce, requires a strong rather healthy population. How every political party/politician here has normalized getting infected with covid multiple times - when that's preventable - is not true leadership. Long covid disabilities have hampered a lot of prior workforce & is continuing to strip more people from workforce. Not a single political party has any idea on how to deal with increasing funds needed to help newly disabled folks - who are unable to keep working with their long covid issues & with other medical issues triggered by covid infections like TB, Lyme disease, neurological dysfunctions & multiple organs damages - to name but a few that has been directly attributed to covid infections.
Will you wait until you or someone you deeply love to die or become disabled from covid, before you step up to lead by example? You'd be the first & millions of us would support you with leading better, by living example & demonstrating your words are not empty but you actually do care about disabled folks & every citizen, even most of you who normalized covid - when it should've never been normalized.

@avilewis Bonnie Henry removing mask mandates resulted in my Dad getting infected by #unmasked hospital staff. He died from covid cardiac arrest in 2023. This was government sanctioned #murder by #eugenics policies. Every single political party has failed to protect citizens, especially most vulnerable ones. Every single politician has normalized eugenics. That will end up costing provincial & federal governments, millions, if not billions to deal with long covid & many other preventable health issues. You have an opportunity to do better & lead by a more humane, not eugenics, living example. Start by normalizing wearing masks indoors again.

Disabled folks are some of the strongest people on this planet. We've had to continually adapt ourselves to a world, a society, that continues to underestimate us. A society which continues to dehumanize us. A society that treats us like unwanted outcasts. We fight for our lives, daily, amidst all of that. We deserve dignity, respect & human rights. This #BCgovernment doesn't really care about #PeopleWithDisabilities. Programs/services/supports for #disabled citizens have been cut, budgets slashed; we face years plus long waiting lists to access both medical & disability support services, we live under #eugenics public health policies, our BC government still denies prescription coverage for several essential medications, funding for nonprofits that help disabled people live/work has been fully cut or severely reduced. That's only the tip of the inhumane cruelty icebergs - when it comes to how our governments have #dehumanized & mistreated us disabled citizens. Their dishonest PR speeches do not align with the hard realities that people with disabilities in BC face, regularly.

When #parents won't #MaskUp - they teach their #children to not be safe with their #health too. They also teach their kids to not care about others in the community. I'm blown away by how many parents are OK with exposing themselves & their kids to several preventable, airborne illnesses, including covid. They're risking death & disabilities on themselves & their kids.
Our #PublicHealth system is already overburdened & understaffed. We have many former health care workers with long covid & they never returned to work. We are nowhere near prepared to deal with many future cases of long covid & the 2ndary illnesses & disabilities that more people will suffer from - because they aren't being #CovidSafe.
Our government & mainstream media has stopped reporting facts on covid & on long covid. They want the public to forget about it. Which means dismissing the lives of disabled people like me & many others, who are still being covid safe.

I'm tolerated but feel ostracized at work because I'm still protecting with masks, still keep asking for proactive masking - despite being shut down on that multiple times. I'm in a very tiny minority of covid cautious folks at work & in larger local community.

I'm suggesting that everyone else who got similar self congratulatory emails from BC government to take time to email too & let them know those emails are just infuriating people. They don't help us to feel better. It only helps to remind us that we have not been helped but ignored for a very long time. It is not easily forgiveable to be treated like you are disposable & not worthy of getting essential medical help.

All except 1 staff is masked at Burnside Medical Office, lower level office with bad air ventilation. There are 5 other patients in waiting area & only one is masked(blue surgical mask). Mom & I are only ones here wearing N95s. We have opted to sit closer to entry/exit & around the corner from the unmasked open mouth breathers.

The first #COVID19 #data released by the #BritishColumbia for #Disease Control since the official end of the province's #PublicHealthEmergency shows #hospitalizations decreasing, but still near their highs for the year.
There were 175 test-positive #COVID patients in #BChospitals as of Thursday, according to the #BCCDC. That's down from 204 at the start of last month, but still the fourth-highest total of 2024, and more than double the 76 people #hospitalized at this time last year.
The BCCDC's most recent update showed 368 new, lab-confirmed #COVIDinfections in the province, though that number significantly #underestimates the spread of the #virus because most people in the province do not qualify for lab-based testing.

Gregory said the database is a good idea for some diseases, in particular for some vaccines that do protect people from infection. But when it comes to COVID-19, he said, the vaccine doesn’t prevent transmission.
“Relying on vaccinations as the measure of whether people are likely or not to transmit [COVID] to vulnerable patients is a very dangerous strategy,” Gregory said.
Instead, he added, it would be best if everyone wore masks in public health settings whenever possible.
Mitigation measures such as properly worn N95s, HEPA air filtration, ventilation and avoiding high-risk areas like indoor crowded spaces are “all variant proof,” Gregory said. “No variant has evolved to circumvent an N95.”
